Kim Zolciak鈥檚 Sexual Identity: A Journey of Self-Discovery

Kimberleigh Marie Zolciak Biermann, famously known as Kim Zolciak is an American singer, actress, television personality, and businesswoman who has been the face of the television series 鈥楾he Real Housewives of Atlanta.鈥� The singer, born in 1978 was a key character in the show after appearing in more than five seasons.

Zolciak鈥檚 fame in the entertainment industry made her a target of the media and millions of her fans who wanted to know everything about her. Despite having a private life, the relentless media and curious men and women wanted to uncover the truth about her personal; life including her gender identity and sexual orientation.

When news about Zolciak鈥檚 relationship with another woman surfaced in 2010, many people thought she would deny the allegations. However, the 鈥楾ardy for the Party鈥� singer was bold enough to address the issue in the Life & Style magazine interview.

In the interview, the multitalented star confirmed the allegation that she had been in a relationship with DJ Tracy Young. Therefore she acknowledged her sexual attraction for both men and women saying that gender does not play a role in a person you choose to love.

鈥淚 don’t believe love has a gender. I have a ton of girlfriends who have been with girls, and I could never comprehend that before. Now I can. But I don’t want to define gay, bisexual, or straight. I just think it’s too much for me 鈥� a woman doesn’t define me, nor does a man,鈥� said Zolciak.

Zolciak has had a series of relationships with men in the years before falling in love with a woman. She was married to Daniel Toce in 2001, four years after she had her first child with an unknown man. She welcomed her daughter Ariana in 2001 while married Toce before the couple separated in 2003.

The movie star did not stop her journey to find the love of her life as she fell in love with a man she identified as 鈥楤ig Poppa.鈥� She hid his identity from her friends until his identity was revealed as the businessman Lee Najjar. Zolciak dated Najjar for more than three years before he made a move to propose to her. Even though Zolciak accepted the proposal, the duo would break up the following year because Najjar had not divorced his first wife.

Breaking up with Lee Najjar was one of the hardest moments in Zolciak鈥檚 life. However, it was also a defining moment because it helped her find her inner self and discover that she was bisexual. While nursing the wounds from the breakup, the singer met DJ Tracy Young, with whom she believes was love at first sight.

鈥淲ell, we were both going through heartbreak at the time. I had split up with Big Poppa, and she had just ended a relationship she had been in for three years. The first night we met, we just connected on a different level,鈥� Zolciak told Life & Style in the interview.

While many people thought Zolciak would regret her decision to come out, she had answers to every question that her fans asked. She was ready to be accountable and take responsibility for her actions. She does not regret anything and discovering her sexual orientation helped her to start enjoying life.

She recounts her journey to accepting her sexuality despite being a parent and what people thought of her and her family.

鈥淚’m among the millions of parents who have been in a gay or lesbian relationship. It hasn’t been an easy road lately, but I feel there are no mistakes in my life. Everything happens for a reason. To have the opportunity to speak for myself and to have people understand what I’m going through is special. I myself was confused and scared at first. Being able to speak from my heart and get this all out, it鈥檚 a huge relief for me,鈥� she said in the interview indicating her decision to move forward and ignore the opposition.

Zolciak鈥檚 moment of coming out as bisexual was met with both praise and criticism. Members of the LGBTQ+ community praised the singer for being bold enough to come out and let everyone know who she is made of. Letting everyone know her sexuality was a relief as she felt like she had offloaded a load from her shoulders.

The singer went on to narrate how the two became romantically engaged with Tracy Young. They spent a lot of time together on their first date talking about personal issues. The duo would eventually head to the studio where they recorded the remix for 鈥楾ardy for the Party鈥� together. They became closer and closer, meeting often until they finally kissed, which was the beginning of their new journey.

鈥淭here were sparks, but [physically] it was a gradual situation. Tracy made the first move. Our first kiss was passionate and exciting,鈥� she explained.

Kim Zolciak is known for her courage and honest personality and she believes in stating the truth. She is also a woman who does not regret her decisions in life, whether the decision led her to the right path or not. According to her, the encounter with Young was a lifetime experience and she enjoyed every minute she spent with her newfound love.

When she was asked whether or not she would deny her relationship with Tracy Young, the singer said that she would never deny despite being forced to explain to the public. She said that she had not opened up about her sexuality to her family and friends and felt that she was pushed to explain because of the rumors.

However, Zolciak and Tracy Young broke up after less than a year in a relationship. Zolciak stated that her partner was obsessed with fame making their relationship hard.

The actress finally met the love of her life, Kroy Biermann in 2010 and got married the following year. The couple had four children together. Kroy also adopted the singer鈥檚 two children from their previous relationships making a beautiful family with the former NFL player. The couple were together until May 2023 when they filed for divorce. The couple announced their separation amid their financial crisis.

Therefore Zolciak has been in a romantic relationship with both men and women and she has enjoyed it in both cases. Having been married to a man might have made her not think about being bisexual until she met Tracy Young.
