25 Famous Women Celebrities Who Rocked a Bald Head

In today鈥檚 world, a lot of importance is placed on external appearances and this especially goes for women. However, we have a group of women who have risen above societal norms to embrace their true selves. One way in which these remarkable women have challenged conventions is by confidently sporting a bald head. 

Not only do these women serve as a symbol of courage, but also of strength and individuality. They have reshaped popular culture to define beauty on a different scale from the norm for even generations to come. In this list of famous women celebrities who rocked a bald head, we feature women across different industries from music to film to governance and even fashion. 

1. Amber Rose

Amber Rose is well known for her iconic blonde cut. Amber Rose stated that seeing Sinead O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ video inspired her to shave her head. While her friends were opposed to the idea, she says that she rebelled against everyone and went straight down the middle at a barber shop. To date, she rocks the look as her signature look. 

2. Sinead O’Connor

Sinead, in an interview with Dr. Phil in 2017 described the heartbreaking reason she chose to shave her hair off. She explained that when she was growing up, her sister had beautiful red hair but their mother took it into her head that her sister鈥檚 hair was ugly, horrible and disgusting. And she stated, when Sinead had long hair, she would introduce them as her pretty daughter and her ugly daughter. And that鈥檚 why Sinead cut my hair off, she didn鈥檛 want to be pretty.

3. Jessie J 

Jessie J shaved her head in 2013 on live television to raise money for Comic Relief. She also stated that she would keep the bald look for some time and possibly have the same look for her album cover. She stated, there’s no point in shaving your head for charity if you’re then going to just grow it back the next day.

4. Kristen Stewart 

Stewart first rocked up in a bald head at the screening of her film, Personal Shopper, in 2017. She explained that she had shaved her head in advance of doing a movie in a couple of weeks called Underwater where she plays a mechanical engineer who is working on an oil rig on the bottom of the ocean floor. She stated the practical thing for her to do at that time was shave her head. She added that she felt amazing and would rock the bald look for a longer period of time. 

5. Demi Moore

Demi Moore shaved her head for her role in Ridley Scott’s 1997 film G.I. Jane, in which she played a woman recruited to train with the Navy SEALS.  Demi stated that she got a lot of reactions from strangers who wanted to touch her head. Her children would even tell their friends to come and check out their mom鈥檚 head which she found quite hilarious. 

6. Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong鈥檕 in 2018 stated that she had her  hair relaxed for most of her teenage years, and that the upkeep of relaxed hair was such a commitment. It took styling it once a week and then having it retouched once a month. She recalled doing crazy things, like sleeping with my head above the headboard so that her curls wouldn鈥檛 get messed up the next day.

One day, she states her dad joked,  鈥淲hy don鈥檛 you just cut it all off?鈥� And a few months later, she thought to herself, Why don鈥檛 I? She went into the hair salon, and cut it off. 7. Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan shaved off her famous red hair to play Nebula in the first Guardians of the Galaxy film. Now, she wears a bald cap. Gillan dramatically revealed her shaved head during a Comic-Con appearance in 2014. She’d been walking around the convention with a wig just to surprise all the fans at the Guardians panel by whipping off the wig to reveal her bald look on stage.

8. Jada Pinkett Smith

In 2018, Jada Pinkett Smith bravely opened up about experiencing hair loss also known as alopecia in her talkshow Red Table Talk. She said she had been getting a lot of questions on why she had been wearing the turban and while she was terrified of stating the truth publicly, she was lauded for her bravery. 

9. Halsey

Halsey has frequently switched back and forth between a shaved head, her natural hair, and wigs. While growing out her hair she stated she was growing it out for so long and wouldn’t shave it until she saw what it was like when healthy and long, then said ‘mm this is nice but I miss bald.’ and then so she did it.

10. Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman famously shaved her head in 2006 for her role as Evey, a freedom fighter in V for Vendetta. At the time, she stated that she was excited to have the opportunity to throw her vanity away for a little and go around with no hair. She was in character at the moment it happened.

11. Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne shaved her head in 2017 for the film Life in a Year, in which she played a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy. She stated that it was not mandatory for her to shave head for that particular role, but she decided to do it anyway. She added that she needed to immerse herself in the role completely to feel and live how an actual cancer patient would look and feel. According to Cara, beauty is a feeling and doesn鈥檛 matter if you have hair or not.  

12. Erykah Badu

Erykah Badu was first spotted rocking the freshly shaved head at the Grammys in 2001. It is around this same time that she stopped wearing head wraps citing that the headwraps had started becoming heavy both physically and mentally. 13. Adwoa Aboah

Adwoa Aboah stated in 2015 that she shaved her hair as she felt no attachment to it. This decision gave her a level of empowerment she had never experienced before. She also said she now doesn鈥檛 take an hour to find hair products and fix her hair. So far she has learnt to appreciate her unique bald look and would love it if other girls with the same hair could feel the same way, empowered and beautiful.

14. Solange Knowles

In 2009, Solange Knowles tweeted that she shaved her head because she wanted to be free from the bondage that Black women sometimes put on themselves with hair. She reiterated this while attending the Oprah Winfrey show that “This phase in my life, I want to spend the time, the energy, and the money on something else and not in the hair salon.”

15. Danai Gurira

Danai Gurira shaved her head for her role as Okoye in Black Panther in 2018. She stated she was the first one of the female warriors in Black Panther to get her head shaved. She stated that her shaved head looked took alot of getting used to but eventually, she and her co-stars in black panther got used to the look and then the pride started to grow.

16. Doja Cat

Doja Cat  frequently changes up her hairstyle, including rocking her platinum-blonde buzz cut. She called having her natural hair a nightmare and also said she didn’t even like having hair.

17. Grace Jones

Grace in her book, I鈥檒l Never Write My Memoirs explained, she liked how having it short was a threat to people because it made her look so confrontational. It made her look hard, in a soft world. It made her look more like a thing than a person, but that was how she had felt being treated growing up, as a thing, without feeling, an object, not even human. She stated shaving her head was the most liberating thing she did for herself. 

18. Shira Haas

Shira Haas explained how she felt having her hair shaved off on-screen. She was ready for it. She knew about it a long time before, even in the audition process. At the same time, she always had the longest hair. She never cut my hair and actually loved her hair. It was scary. How does my head, shaved, look? Even before they started filming, she really felt nervous and scared alongside excited.

19. Kellie Pickler

Kellie Pickler shaved her head to show solidarity with her friend who was diagnosed with breast cancer. The American idol alumni shaved her head in 2012 in solidarity with her childhood friend Summer Holt Miller, who was diagnosed with breast cancer.

20. Amandla Stenberg

Amandla Stenberg opened up about her hair journey saying that she rocked a big curly afro as a symbol of her self-acceptance. It was her showing self-love, but she eventually grew tired of the look and cut her hair shorter. 21. Willow Smith

Willow Smith in 2012, made a statement when she shaved her head in the middle of her Whip My Hair tour. She explained this decision saying, she was just over it. Smith said the truth of the song is 鈥淒o want you want鈥� It doesn’t actually have to do with hair. 鈥榃hip your hair鈥� is just a symbol for doing whatever you want. So in a way, she felt like it wasn’t even a rebellion because the song was saying that, and I was doing whatever she wanted which was also to show people she wasn鈥檛 attached to her hair. 

22. Keke Palmer

In 2017, Palmer posted a selfie of her newly shaved head on Twitter with the caption “Haters will say it’s photoshopped.鈥� Speaking that same year, she said she cut her hair to start over in terms of growing it. She wanted to let her hair rest and also experience bald life. Immediately after shaving it, she also dyed her hair purple to challenge herself to change her wardrobe.

23. Cynthia Nixon 

Cynthia Nixon went totally bald to play a cancer patient in a play called Wit. While she liked the look, she stated that she didn鈥檛 think she would rock the bald look forever.

24. Joey King

King has shaved her head three times for roles and she stated she would do it again. She shaved her head to play Gypsy Rose Blanchard in The Act. Joey stated that every woman should shave their head at least once in their life. She says that shaving her hair gave her a feeling of liberation and even when some people said many mean things, she still felt very powerful and confident. 

25. Millie Bobby Brown

In 2018, Brown called shaving her head empowering on Instagram. She stated the day she shaved her head was the most empowering moment of her whole life.
