According to Franco, labeling people about their sexual orientation based on whom they are having sex with is an old-school thing. He has quoted the mid-twentieth century when one would be labeled gay, or bisexual for having an affair on just one occasion. He tends to think that there should be an allowance where people can be either gay or straight. He defended his claims that he is not advocating for an ambiguous zone but would be interested to see how things unfold in the future.

In subsequent interviews in 2016, Franco was further probed on the matter. Here, he restated that he is only gay in his art and straight in real life, but went on to say that perhaps he is also a little gay in real life.

While defining a gay man, Franco thinks that he is only gay up to a certain point in life. 鈥淎lthough, I鈥檓 also gay in my life up to the point of intercourse, and then you can say I鈥檓 straight. So I guess it depends on how you define gay,鈥� he said in the same interview.

The film industry actor, director, and writer has recently taken it to the public to criticize the work the media does regarding his sexuality. He suggested that the media is over-focusing on his sexuality because he is a celebrity. He urges that whomever he is having sex with is none of their business.
