Despite Miller鈥檚 achievements and being part of successful projects, he has never stopped attracting media attention. The actor surprised his fans in 2012 when he came out as queer. However, he refuted the claims that he was gay. The actor said that he does not identify with any gender. That is to say that he is neither male nor female. 鈥淵eah, absolutely. I identified as queer in the past. Which is to say, I don鈥檛 identify. Like, fuck that. Queer just means 鈥榥o鈥�, I don鈥檛 do that. I don鈥檛 identify as a man. I don鈥檛 identify as a woman. Miller has continued with his gender identity story which has evolved. When he was arrested in a bar in Hawaii, miller was not afraid to let the officers know his gender. He has always persisted in being addressed as they/them/theirs and not him/he/her. 鈥淚鈥檓 not a sir. I鈥檓 transgender nonbinary. Please call me they/them/theirs,鈥� Miller said to one of the police officers who had called them sir.

Miller also insists on using the term Mx. in place of Mr. Mrs. or Ms. as a queer, Miller has also hinted that they are comfortable with using neopronouns. Previously, the actor had listed in their Instagram bio that they prefer using they/them/its/zir. The neopronouns are not familiar as they are barely used but they exist. Those who feel that they don鈥檛 belong to any gender, or binary like Ezra would use them

It is important to note that Ezra Miller has stated that they are queer, and not gay. The actor dislikes being labeled as a gay man and insisted that they were still on the way to discovering who they are. According to Miller, their gender was not definitive at the time they came out as queer and would probably change in the future. When interviewed by the LGBTQ+ magazine, Miller stated that he has friends from different genders and they had never fallen in love with anyone in particular.

After initially trying relationships with both men and women in the past, Miller figured out that monogamous relationships were not working for them. The actor, therefore, ventured into polyamorous relationships where they can have multiple romantic partners. 鈥淚鈥檓 trying to find queer beings who understand me as a queer being off the bat, whom I make almost a familial connection with, and I feel like I鈥檓 married to them 25 lifetimes ago from the moment we meet,鈥� Miller said in an interview.
