The Ribe Viking Center in Denmark will host the International Viking Market from April 29 to May 5, 2024.
This event will take visitors on a journey 1300 years into the past, showcasing authentic reconstructions of Viking life from 710-980 AD in Ribe, Denmark’s oldest town. Visitors will have the chance to meet and interact with craftspeople, such as the blacksmith, king’s minter, v枚lva (a female seer), lady of the Longhouse, slave, warrior, falconer, carpenter, merchant, and farmer. The event will also include a variety of farm animals, making the experience even more genuine.
Guests can walk through the Marketplace from 710 AD, see the merchants’ boats at the Ripa Harbour from 750 AD, and go inside the Vikings’ houses in Ripa Town from 825 AD, including the impressive Thing-hall. The beautifully decorated wooden Ansgar Church from 860 AD is a must-see, located on the opposite river bank. Visitors can also learn about Viking Age agriculture at the Manor Farm from 980 AD and see the life of the lady in charge of the household in the Longhouse. The Ring Wall from 980 AD, where warriors and archers camp, is another highlight of the event.
During the International Viking Market, visitors can take part in various activities and watch exciting performances. They can try archery, bake a flatbread, join in the warrior training (for children), help with chores in the Thing-hall, and learn traditional Viking games.
