The Infant Jesus of Prague, a small wooden statue with a big reputation, continues to attract visitors from around the world. This 16th-century figure, housed in the Church of Our Lady Victorious, is at the center of a growing spiritual movement.

“We see thousands of pilgrims each year,” says Father Novak, the church’s head priest. “People come seeking miracles, comfort, and connection.”

A Rich History

The statue, just 19 inches tall, depicts the child Jesus holding a globe and raising his hand in blessing. It wears elaborate robes that are changed regularly, with a wardrobe of over 300 outfits.

The Infant’s history is as colourful as its clothes. Originally from Spain, it arrived in Prague in 1556 as a wedding gift. In 1628, it was donated to a Carmelite monastery. Legend says the statue spoke to a monk, promising blessings in return for devotion.

“The Infant Jesus represents hope,” explains Maria Garcia, a visitor from Mexico. “In tough times, people turn to him for comfort.”

Curious Crowds and Cultural Impact

Visitors wait in long lines to see the Infant Jesus up close. Many leave written prayer requests or small gifts.

A local tour guide noted, “Tourists are captivated by the statue’s beauty and the stories surrounding it. It’s become a must-see attraction in Prague.”

The statue’s influence extends beyond religion. It’s said to have inspired works of literature and art, including Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “The Little Prince.”

Join the Pilgrims

City officials are working to manage the influx of visitors while preserving the site’s spiritual atmosphere.

As word spreads about Prague’s “miracle-working” Infant Jesus, the city expects the trend to continue. Whether drawn by faith, curiosity, or cultural interest, it seems the tiny statue will keep attracting big crowds to the heart of Prague.
