May is the month of painting the streets red, orange, yellow鈥ny color really. With the Madeira Flower Festival 2024 commencing on May 2nd at 18:00, Portugal鈥檚 Madeira Island will be quite the spectacle to behold. The festival will kick off at the Central Square (Placa Central), and the theme is 鈥楳adeira, the magic of flowers.鈥� Concerts, exhibitions, a classic car parade and a golf tournament are just some of the events that will mark the festivities.
The festival is one of the biggest in the region, as people celebrate spring鈥檚 beauty together. As such, hotel occupancy is expected to be at its highest as visitors flock the town to participate. Set to run from May 2nd to May 26th, the festival will combining popular festival traditions and must-see attractions such as the flower carpets displays along Avenida Arriaga.
The flower market will be held from 10 am every day at Avenida Arriaga鈥檚 central square. The Children鈥檚 Parade will be on 4th May, in which children adorned in costumes march from Avenida Arriaga to Pra莽a do Munic铆pio, each carrying a flower, which will be used to create the Wall of Hope. Afterwards, there is a children’s show.
Participants can expect a lively Flower Festival Parade on 5th May, as decorated flower floats paint the streets with color. This will be at the Avenida do Mar, and both locals and tourists usually take part in the much awaited festivity. Other activities include flower exhibitions and workshops at the Pra莽a do Povo Pavilion, which feature competitors in flower arrangements. More information on set dates can be accessed on the
