Passengers using Václav Havel Airport in Prague will enjoy an extra 350 new parking spaces for vehicles and an easier way to pay for parking. In a bid to smoothen operations, the airport will shorten the free time allowed for picking up or dropping off passengers at the terminals. These measures will be effective from May 2024.
This short drop-off and pick-up process will allow drivers to use the express parking for free up to 10 minutes from the current 15. Parking for more than 10 minutes will attract charges at 15-minute intervals. Thus, users of P1 and P2 express parking lots, will pay CZK 50 every 15 minutes beyond the allowed free time.
In a press release, Jakub Puchalský, the Prague Airport spokesperson commented: “According to our available data, almost 90 percent of drivers leave the express car park within 10 minutes, so the change will affect [only] a small number of our customers”.
The Parking Experience Will Be Better
The airport at the same time will enhance the parking experience for its customers. This will see new barrier systems put up and advanced license plate recognition technology rolling out in May. There will also be more cameras installed in the parking garages, which drivers can use to reserve a space with their license plate number.
Additionally, parking fees will have more payment options. The new strategy the airport will add is direct pay at the exit stands. With this option, customers will be able to use contactless payment via card or mobile using a QR code.
Passengers will also have more parking space to appreciate across the airport’s three main parking spaces. Altogether, parking lots in the airport will have 350 more spots come May.
The PB Economy car park will be transformed into Prague Airport’s third express car park. This parking lot is opposite Terminal 2 and serves as a waiting area for the Uber taxi service. From May, the taxi operators will get a new designation.
Non-Uber taxi drivers can also celebrate discounts on parking fees using a new Taxi Card system to be rolled out by the airport in May. According to airport officials, only taxi drivers who meet the airport’s defined rules for offering services will be eligible.
