The Turkish metropolis of Istanbul is pulling out all the stops to attract visitors from Egypt following the recent normalisation of ties between the two nations. A new “Welcome Back!” campaign by the Turkish Ministry of Tourism is aiming to reignite travel between the two historic regional powers.
“Istanbul is open and eagerly awaiting our Egyptian brothers and sisters,” said Tourism Minister Mehmet Nuri Ersoy at a press conference today. “Our rich histories and cultures have been intertwined for centuries. Now is the time to restart those people-to-people connections through tourism.”
Restoring Flights and Easing Entry Rules
The normalisation has already cleared key logistical hurdles for Egyptian leisure travelers. Turkish Airlines recently resumed direct flights from Cairo to Istanbul after a lengthy hiatus. Both countries have also moved to mutually ease entry requirements and visa policies.
“Getting to Istanbul from Cairo is now easier than ever,” Ersoy stated. “We’ve slashed red tape and rolled out the red carpet for Egyptian guests.”

Marketing Blitz and Cultural Events
Beyond the policy changes, the “Welcome Back!” initiative is launching an aggressive tourism marketing campaign in Egypt. Splashy advertisements featuring Istanbul’s famous mosques, bazaars and Bosphorus scenery are flooding Egyptian TV, websites and social media.
The Turkish Tourism Ministry is also organizing a series of cultural events, culinary festivals and artistic performances in Istanbul specifically catering to Egyptian visitors. The goal is to celebrate the close cultural affinities and make Egyptians feel at home.
“We may speak different languages, but our hearts beat as one,” commented Ersoy. “These events will highlight all that connects our precious civilizational heritages.”
Benefiting Both Economies
Turkish officials are hoping the warm welcome will pay major economic dividends for Istanbul’s critical tourism industry. Prior to the diplomatic freeze, Egypt was a top source of regional visitors to Turkey.
“Reviving travel between our nations will be a win-win,” Ersoy predicted. “Egyptian tourists get to experience the wonders of Istanbul while also generating vital revenue, jobs and investment for Turkey’s services sector.”
He added that increased tourism could help offset the financial impacts of consumers worldwide tightening their belts during the current economic volatility.
