Shop ’til You Drop! As Primark Opens its first Store in Budapest

The world-famous retailer Primark has finally opened its first-ever Hungarian location, situated in the busy Arena Mall Budapest. With over 180 new jobs and an investment of €8 million, as reported by themselves, this exciting arrival represents a significant turning point in Primark’s global expansion.

“Nearly five years after opening our first store in the region, we’re delighted to celebrate another significant milestone as we enter our 17th international market with the opening of Primark Arena Mall in Budapest, Hungary. We are excited to introduce our unique Primark offering to customers in Budapest, bringing something new and exciting to the market.”

This year, three additional locations are set to open in Timisoara (Romania), Bydgoszcz (Poland), and a second location in Prague (Czech Republic). Primark’s head of sales for Central and Eastern Europe, Maciej Podwojski, expressed the company’s delight about joining the Hungarian market at the press conference on Monday.

“The opening of our first store in Hungary is a significant step for Primark, and we are thrilled to bring our unique formula of fashion and value to Budapest,” he stated.

With 3,100 square metres of space, the new Arena Mall store is expected to become a popular destination for city shoppers. With its aggressive worldwide expansion plans, Primark hopes to have 530 locations by the end of 2026.

According to , the retailer currently has over 440 locations globally, including a brand-new flagship last week that debuted in the historic Conde de Peñalver building, which used to be Cine Salamanca, right in the heart of Madrid’s Salamanca neighbourhood.

Since its 1969 debut in Ireland, Primark has expanded to become a major player in the fashion industry, having stores all throughout Europe and the US. The business, which is referred to as Penneys in Ireland, opened its first location in Continental Europe in Madrid, Spain, in 2006 after expanding to Great Britain in 1973.

Nowadays, Primark maintains its emphasis on sustainability while employing almost 80,000 people globally. The store wants to cut its carbon emissions in half by 2030 and only offer products manufactured from recyclable or recycled materials.
