“Does Jenna Ortega’s series”Wednesday” really deserve an Emmy?

After the recent discovery that Netflix will be endorsing its most recent popular series “Wednesday,” played by Jenna Ortega, for Emmy consideration, Netflix has been receiving a huge backlash and are once again at the focus of criticism. The critics and spectators are questioning the choice, with many claiming that the production does not live up to the bar for an Emmy-worthy work.

In fact a comment reads, “This is not an Emmys worthy show.” The statement alone has generated views and a whole discussion over the role of streaming services in the awards process.  Another adds sacarstically, “yup lets nominate an acting performance where the actor stares at the camera with no expression and talks in a monotone voice the entire show totally shows insane acting range.”

Others cynically assert that the main character’s repetitive language most certainly deserves the low blows that she is getting people genuinely think that Jenna is not talented. The hate that the team is receiving is just harsh. Makes you wonder what standards should be applied to evaluate if a show is deserving of such a coveted honour.

This entire discussion has me thinking whether Jenna Ortega’s performance on “Wednesday” would actually merit an Emmy nomination or people are just hating on the 20 year old actress and why Netflix has decided to endorse Wednesday.

Apart from Wednesday, The drama series Queen Charlotte, the comedy series Dead to Me, the reality series Selling Sunset, the animated program Entergalactic, and the documentary/nonfiction special Pamela: A Love Story are just a few of Netflix’s top Emmy contenders this season that will all be represented by activations inside the FYSee Space, which will be open from Friday, May 5, through Friday, May 26 at Red Studios at 846 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Los Angeles.

There is no denying that the Jenna Ortega’s “Wednesday” series was a hit for Netflix. It was generally enjoyed by the public and garnered enough views to break the record set by the popular series Stranger Things. The show was first released on November 23rd, 2022 where Jenna played the major leading role of Wednesday Addams which led to her being nominated for the Golden Globe.

In addition, Jenna Ortega’s performance was so well-received by viewers everywhere that a second season is on the way, with her making her executive producer debut. From recent reports, Netflix, will spare no costs in its 2023 Emmy campaigns on Jenna Ortega’s series, Wednesday. This is seen by the invitation of people’s favourite trio, from the comedy series, who will hand-deliver treats to many voters who will be pesent, exciting, right!

The trio consists of “Thing,” the disembodied hand, “Wednesday Addams,” the gothic teen, and “Lurch,” the Addams family’s butler, who will be driving a class black 1930s hearse, Netflix spared zero costs. The responses from the public were generally filled with dissatisfaction with Netflix’s choice to promote Wednesday for the Emmys. It seems like even with Jenna Ortega’s outstanding performance and the amazing cast, you can never please everyone.

Honestly the controversy surrounding Netflix’s support of Jenna’s series “Wednesday” has drawn attention to a bigger discussion on the future of TV awards. While some, I included, contend that programs like “Wednesday” deserve respect for their capacity to hold the attention of younger audiences at a short period of time, others unfortunately strongly disagree, but hey I guess we all don’t have good taste.
