After a two-day train strike in Rome on May 4 and May 5, there is yet another peaceful demonstration that will disrupt public transport. Several unions representing public transport have called for a strike on Monday, May 6, in Rome and across other cities in the country. With strikes scheduled to take place at different hours throughout the country, all public transport workers, trade unions, and those directly involved in public transport will gather together to fight for their rights.
The strike in Rome is set to begin at eight o’clock and continue until late evening before resuming and completing a twenty-four-hour demonstration. According to Commune Roma, the strike will immensely affect public transport companies such as ATAC and Roma TPL services.
What could be the major reason behind the strike? Citing reduced working hours in the public transport sector, the workers are complaining about the demanding schedules that are negatively affecting their daily lives. They are set to let the government know about their distress due to fatigue.
Secondly, the public transport workers will be calling for improved safety at their workplaces to enable them to work efficiently. They will be calling for the government to create a better environment for both the workers and customers in the sector.
The strike will generally affect public transport, leading to disrupted movement in and out of the city center. Therefore, anybody traveling to or exploring Rome must be aware of the upcoming strike to avoid inconveniences
