Mambo Mouth was another triumphant production and performance by Leguizamo in 1991. He received an Obie Award and an Outer Critics Award as a result.

Furthermore, in 1993, he wrote and performed Spic-O-Rama. It was a fun narration of the stereotyping of Latinos in the United States. The work won him a Drama Desk Award and four Cable ACE Awards. To add on, Spic-O-Rama and Mambo Mouth were later filmed to air on HBO.
