She is the firstborn in her family with younger siblings. Her brother James Tejada and late sister Gayle Tejada. When Raquel was two years old, her family moved from Illinois to San Diego. Hence that is where she grew up for most of her life.

2. Her birth name is Raquel Tejada
Raquel Welch was given the name Jo Raquel Tejada upon birth. Once she met Hollywood agent Patrick Curtis he convinced her to take up her husband’s last name. During that time she was married to James Welch.
Curtis became her personal and business manager and they both worked on a strategy to grow Raquel into a sex symbol. The name change was to avoid her typecasting as a Latina.
3. Raquel Welch was almost dubbed “Debbie”
