One amazing fact about Steph Curry is that he is widely regarded as the greatest shooter of all time and as one of the most renowned and celebrated athletes of the 21st century.
Stephen Curry in full Wardell Stephen Curry II is a professional American basketball player, the son of former NBA player Dell Curry. He came into the national limelight for his impressive play at Davidson College before being drafted in 2009 by Golden State and eventually developed into one of pro basketball’s top players with his stellar shooting skills. After garnering Most Valuable Player honors and helping the Warriors win the NBA championship in 2015, Curry led the team to a league-record 73 wins the following season
The Steph Curry Practice Experience is unique in its originality, repetition, intensity, and relentlessness. There’s a variety of ball-handling drills, followed by shooting from all spots on the floor and then rinse and repeat, to sharpen muscle memory.
In 2016, Curry became the first person to be named MVP by unanimous vote in NBA history and one of only 11 players to win the MVP award two years in a row. Get to know the top 10 amazing facts about Steph Curry.
1. Steph Curry comes from a Very Talented Family

Although Steph is currently one of the best and most talked about athletes on the planet, he isn’t the only Curry that is very talented. His father, Dell Curry, is an ex-NBA player who retired as the Charlotte Hornets all-time leader in points and three-point field goals and is a former Sixth Man of the Year.
His younger brother, Seth Curry, is also a professional basketball player who, after a few D-League and short NBA stints, is now playing for the Dallas Mavericks.
The talent does not just lie with the male side of the family either, as Steph’s mom, Sonya, played college volleyball at Virginia Tech (where she met Dell), whilst his younger sister, Sydel, plays college volleyball at Elon University. This is truly one sporty family.

2. He was the First NBA MVP with a Unanimous Vote

Steph Curry was on a hot streak from 2014-18, though it could be said he’s always been on fire. During his 2015-16 season with the NBA Curry put on spectacular performance after spectacular performance, and even though he didn’t lead the Warriors to the championship, he did something greater.
Curry became the first player in NBA history to be unanimously voted MVP, a feat that few players will likely ever even hope to achieve in the future. This followed a season that saw him electrify crowds, shatter individual records and lead the Golden State Warriors to an NBA team record of 73 wins.
Curry took all 131 first-place votes for the award, beating out Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs and LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers by a wide margin. Curry was expected to win his second consecutive MVP award after leading the Warriors to a single-season record of 73 wins this season—but the unanimous vote is unprecedented.
3. Steph Curry; the Popcorn Aficionado

Curry has mentioned in the past that he has a ‘popcorn problem’, and he can’t stop eating it regularly. On top of that, Curry also likes to go to different areas where he plays and try out popcorn
Stephen Curry loves his popcorn and is a tough critic of the snack. He has a ranking of the best and worst popcorn in all of the NBA stadiums. He rates them on a scale of 0-5 based on freshness, saltiness, crunchiness, butter, and presentation.
According to him the best popcorn in the league, according to Curry, can be found at the Dallas Mavericks stadium, the American Airlines Center. The worst is the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers stadium, Staples Center.
Steph Curry not only inherited the sharpshooting talent from his father, but he might have also taken in some love for popcorn. Like his father, he loves to gorge on popcorn. His love for popcorn is now well known across the league and the Sacramento Kings decided to leave him a personalized can of popcorn for him to enjoy.
4. Steph Curry is an Avid Golfer

Steph Curry takes his golf seriously and often finds time to participate in golf tournaments during the offseason. He has intimated that had he not been a basketball player he would have become a golf player. He even swears that golf has helped him improve in basketball too, thanks to the mental focus and fine motor skills required to play golf.
For Curry accuracy is clearly not an issue regardless of the sport, as he regularly impresses at celebrity golf tournaments and even shot a 76 whilst golfing with President Obama. He played three years at high school, and his father thinks that he would have been able to go pro had his basketball career never taken off.
Actually, there seem to be quite a few NBA stars that eventually try out the world of golf. While some do better than others, it seems that Curry has actually managed to impress quite a few people with his skills on the green. While winning any golf championship is a long shot it’s clear that Curry is able to excel in just about any athletic endeavor he engages in.
5. Nike’s made a $14 billion Mistake with Steph Curry

Curry donned Nike shoes early in his career and it was only in 2013 that he switched to Under Armour. But not before Nike pitched him the infamous contract in which they misspelled his name as Stephon, but they also regurgitated a power point presentation meant for Kevin Durant during their meeting.
To makes matters worse, many of the top executives did not show up to the meeting. This was when Stephen Curry decided to drop Nike for Under Armour.
Perhaps the straw that broke the camel’s back was that Nike didn’t give Curry a Nike-sponsored camp, presumably thinking he would remain a second-tier athlete. Nike regrets the oversight to this day.
6. Steph Curry’s Expensive Mouthguard Chewing Habit

Anyone who’s ever watched a Warriors game has seen Steph Curry chewing on his mouthguard. It’s a signature look for him at this point. What you may not know is that you can actually buy those mouthguards, for a small fee.
A used Steph Curry mouthguard will cost you upwards of a few thousand dollars. The most expensive one, his 2018 Game 4 Finals mouthguard was valued at $25,000.
For diehard NBA fans, collecting memorabilia directly associated with players is worth taking the risk. After all, they rake in money for them.
His game-used mouthguards have been sold for thousands of dollars, one of which (worn in game 4 of 2018 NBA Finals) had an expected value of $25,000. That’s quite an expensive affair for a used mouthpiece.

7. He is the Three-Point King
Although his incredible three-point shooting has already been discussed, it has to be brought up again since it is so staggering. In his MVP campaign in 2014-15, Steph eclipsed his own record of 272 makes in the season and would finish the campaign with a whopping 286.
He carried this astonishing form into the playoffs, where he broke Reggie Miller’s record of 58 threes (in 22 games) in just 13 games. He obliterated this record on the way to the NBA title, finishing with a breathtaking 98 makes in only 21 games.
Single handily re-writing the record books. The following season, he drained a ridiculous 402, smashing his own record to bits. Surely he is the greatest three-point shooter of all time? Sorry, Reggie and Ray. It is also important to note that Curry is much, much more than a three-point shooter and excels in almost every area of the game, with excellent dribbling and passing skills.
8. Each Steph Curry 3-Pointer is a Donation to an Anti-Malaria Campaign
For a number of seasons, Curry has donated three insecticide-treated mosquito nets for each triple he makes during a game. It is for the Nothing But Nets anti-malaria campaign, and in 2013 the Warriors superstar spent his summer vacation time in Tanzania hanging nets himself in mud huts.
He stated “one whole neighborhood is covered now here thanks to Madison Square Garden. The Knicks covered Block 9, Street 11. I hope they know that.” Having twice set the record for threes made in a season that is a lot of nets.
It is a campaign close to his heart, as he has been active with malaria issues since attending school at Davidson. This is particularly refreshing to see in a world where star athletes and celebrities are so often out of touch with the issues impacting the globe.
9. His Favorite Player Was Muggsy Bogues

A lot of people probably just assume that most NBA stars of today idolized people like Michael Jordan and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and while that may be true in part, that’s not the case for everyone. Steph Curry once admitted that his favorite player was the shortest in NBA history, Muggsy Bogues.
Tyrone Curtis “Muggsy” Bogues is a former American basketball player. The shortest player ever to play in the National Basketball Association, the 5 ft 3 in Bogues played point guard for four teams during his 14-season career in the NBA.
Bogues would have played with Curry’s father when he was in the NBA, letting a young Curry have someone smaller to look up to during his younger years. It’s hard to not love Muggsy Bogues for defying the odds and becoming a legend.
In 2001, he was inducted into the Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame. As of 2021, he remains Wake Forest’s all-time leader in both steals and assists.

10. Steph Curry always Writes a Bible Verse on his Game Shoes
Stephen Curry is a devout Christian who doesn’t shy away from showing his religious beliefs. For every game, he writes “I can do all things” on his Under Armour sneakers. These words come from Philippians 4:13, a verse from the Bible (I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me). The former league MVP has been following this ritual ever since he was a student-athlete at Davidson.
Both of Curry’s parents are devout Christians and that’s how he was raised. While his dad was on the road playing in the NBA, Sonya held everything together at home and was the support system for him and his two siblings.
He has over the years used social media to openly discuss his faith. Curry and his Warriors teammates formed a discipleship group years ago, and he even bonded with other NBA stars, such as Kevin Durant, by attending chapel sessions together during the summer. It’s one of the reasons cited for Durant joining the Warriors in 2016.
