Named partly after the famous outlaw singer, Koe fully known as Ropyr Madison Koe was in Pittsburg in 1992. Growing up, his mother would take him on country music tours since she was a singer. It is not a surprise that Koe himself ended up becoming an iconic singer in his own right. He was a footballer throughout college but changed the course of his career in 2012 when he decided to replace it with music.  He even formed a band known as Konvicts and they released their first EP in 2015 known as Love and Lies.  His fusion of different genres and subject of mature content has always sat right with some people and not so right with others. He’s always been accused of not making his content suitable for a family audience but all in all, he is a good performer. A mash-up of country, grunge, rap, rock, and hip-hop is not easy to achieve but somehow Koe Wetzel makes it look like a walk in the park. Here are some of his songs that became big hits.

1. February 28, 2016

This song is about the exact date Koe was arrested for being drunk and disorderly while still in his hometown in Texas. Of course, the song is loaded with a bunch of curse words and hence purely adult content. The song is one of the three songs from Wetzels’s album, ‘Noise Complaint’ that became a really big controversy on streaming outlets. It also had a lot of licensing issues and it was removed from major platforms. Fans voiced it out and complained enough to have it reinstated. I guess February 28th is a day Koe will never ever forget.

2. April Showers

April Showers was released in 2021 and it was out of the ordinary because Koe decided to be a bit vulnerable with this one. This is a heartache song of a love gone cold and dry and throughout the song, he makes references to common folklore. This is inclusive of the concept of the month of April which is typically known to be a rainy season that brings out the beautiful flowers of May. With this heartbreak tune, fans go to see the other side of Koe. They’re used to his hardcore side, one may tend to forget he is a  human after all with real feelings. The amazing guitar riffs that bridge the world of country and rock together makes this song in a class of its own.

3. Something to Talk About

This is one of the songs that won Koe a fan base beyond Texas. It made him known and respected far and beyond.  As its popularity increased on streaming sites, issues with licensing made the song be taken down and fans retaliated by having social media posts that forced the relevant authorities to put it back on. Thanks to the huge hiccup, Koe’s popularity skyrocketed and the song became the talk of town. Additionally, the song does indeed have something to talk about. Koe talks about his personal and the Texas culture and even pokes fun at people who love to gossip.

4. Tell it All Town

This particular tune became a regional favourite before becoming a regional favourite and thereafter becoming an out-of-state favourite on streaming services. The song became so popular and Koe continued to be popular right along with it.  It rightfully earned the admiration among the fans and at the same time received quite a backlash. allowing politics to get in the way of it. However, its quality and amazing tune continue to make it a favourite for his fans.

5. Forever

The song starts off with a guitar intro that promises you you’re in for a ride with this amazing song. It stands out among Koe’s fans because of how beautiful it is and melodious and it just tugs at your heart. Its lyrics are quite powerful too as he talks about how there is no such thing as forever when it comes to weak relationships and people tend to say words they don’t even mean. The beauty of the song is how relatable it is and Koe’s delivery as an artist convinces us of why he is a star in the first place. His vocal delivery is so outstanding and explains why he is a local favourite back at home.

6. Good Die Young

With this song, Koe proved once again why he has such a fan base. ‘Good die young’ is a tune that is quite frankly unforgettable. It has the perfect material as a good life lesson song that is also good for the soul.  It can also be used as a good motivational song and that is why it is the kind of song that will always be impressive. The popular line in the song, “Tomorrow is never guaranteed, so why put something off until then when it can be done today?” is probably one of the many reasons why it is such an appreciated song.

7. Sundy or Mundy

This song did a marvelous job playing around with the words, ‘Sunday or Monday,’ which leans heavily on the darker side of life. Where people go through life and deal with challenges all through their lifetime. The twang and aura in this song are enough to pass it as an outlaw country and the heavy guitar riffs make it an easy classic. The fact that it manages to sound country and classic all at the same time is what makes it stand out among the many songs Koe has released over the years.

8. Ragweed

This song sung in a hillbilly style rightfully earned its place as a fan favourite. It has a good amount of soul to it and the heartwrenching melody to it sets it apart in a way that just sticks in your head. Koe used this song to share his memory of a love interest that left an impact on him as a person.  This is definitely what makes Koe outstanding. The fact that he can be vulnerable in one song and very hard-headed and playful in another. His honesty in this song makes it more appealing.

9. Drunk Driving

This was more of a ballad from his album known as ‘Sellout.’ It is a very remarkable song about the reality of life and dealing with demons that won’t let go but you still refuse to give up. It is a very deep song and the vulnerability in its delivery makes it all the more beautiful. He talks about his own experiences and put frankly, it is a tear-jerker if not the kind of song that will make you sob. It is relatable and hence a favourite.

10. Happier Alone (featuring Austin Meade)

Released in 2021 from the ‘Black Sheep’ album, this collaboration with Austin Meade went over the roof. It is a song about a troubled relationship and the realization that the couple was better off just going their separate ways. Their vocals blend in well together hence making the most beautiful sound.

Koe Wetzel is a phenomenal singer.  He has done quite well for himself and that is what makes it even more impressive.
