As a follow-up to my article on the pre-children day preparations, Istanbul came alive with the sound of children’s voices this weekend for a very special musical celebration. On Sunday, April 23rd, the city’s most talented young singers took to the stage at the Grand Istanbul Concert Hall for the annual Children’s Day Concert.

A Vibrant Display of Youth and Talent

This much-anticipated event is one of the highlights of the year for music lovers in Istanbul. Children from across the city gather to perform songs, dances, and musical acts showcasing their incredible abilities. This year’s concert featured over 200 elementary and middle school students singing, dancing, and playing instruments.

A particular crowd-pleaser was a medley of songs celebrating children and the importance of nurturing their potential. The choreographed dances accompanying the musical numbers added splashes of colour and energy.

A Cherished Tradition

The Children’s Day Concert has been an Istanbul tradition for over 30 years, honouring the country’s National Sovereignty and Children’s Day on April 23rd. This annual holiday, established by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1920, recognises the vital role of children in society’s future.

If you were in Istanbul in late April, I hope you caught the Children’s Day Concert. If you did,  the radiant smiles and exuberant performances from Istanbul’s youth must have filled you with hope for the future.
