You season 5 renewed by Netflix for its final season

Greetings to you and……good bye, regards You. Its official, Netflix has given the go-ahead for You season 5. The only downside to this is that it will be the last to star Penn Badgley as serial killer/stalker Joe Goldberg. The series is psychological thriller TV show called “You” which debuted on Netflix in 2018.

The drama centers on Joe Goldberg, a charming but unstable man played by Penn Badgley. In season one he develops an obsession with Guinevere Beck, a lady he met at his place of employment, a bookstore, and who is played by Elizabeth Lail. Joe stalks Beck on social media and gradually inserts himself into her life. In attempting to get rid of anyone who stands in the way of his love with Beck, he manipulates her friends and ruins her relationships.

Along the way, Joe’s troubled background comes to light, and the fallout from his deeds catches up with him. The series then follows this line of events through season 2, 3 and 4 tracking Joe’s murderous rampage from New York to London to Los Angeles.

Season 4 which is the most recent season, was divided into two parts, part 1 debuted on February 9, 2023, 16 months later after season 3 was released. The second half followed a month later. This time, Joe appears to have a complete cover for his ‘operations’ thanks to his millionaire girlfriend, Kate ( Charlotte Ritchie).

When the second half was released, the series debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s internal charts; it was insanely interesting to say the least. The first part had me fooled that he had changed but in the back of my mind I was like no he can’t?? How they managed to flip that with everyone from a psychological perspective flawed me! Out of all the seasons I’ve watched I was obsessed with this season, I really enjoyed it and I am looking forward to the next one where Marianne and Nadia take down Joe.

On March 24, Netflix renewed You for a fifth season, it is finally happening, however this will be its final season. Penn Badgley in an interview with IndieWire predicted the outcome where he said, “It feels to me like we need to do another season. It feels to me like Joe needs to get what’s coming to him, and now he has further to fall because he has all this power and wealth.”

In a Netflix press release, Sara Gamble, who co-created the show and will no longer serve in that capacity for the final season, agreed with Badgley who had earlier made a suggestion that You season 5 to be the last season. The series is likely going to be released next year, 2024, as the dates have not yet been given. I’m expecting a GRAND finale.
