April 27 is remembered as the day of the four popes for being a historical day when four popes were present and two were canonized. April 27, 2024, marks ten years since the historical event. The tenth anniversary will be celebrated with a big mass service in Vatican City, which every Catholic and interested person can attend.

This was the day when several people gathered in the St Peters Square to witness the historic canonization of two popes at the same time, in April 2014.

While Pope Francis presided over the canonization of John XXIII and Pope John Paul II, more than eight hundred thousand people watched live, while hundreds of thousands more watched on television. The two popes were revered for their roles and what they had achieved in society.

For instance, Pope John XXIII was praised for calling the Second Vatican Council a period of modernization of the Catholic Church. Pope John Paul II, on the other hand, had immensely advocated for peace and shown his charismatic leadership.

Pope Francis’s decision to canonize both popes on the same day was a symbolic gesture that showed unity among different groups of people in the world.
