London Mayor Sadiq Khan has been re-elected for a second term, with a resounding victory over his Conservative rival Susan Hall. Mr Khan secured over 1.08 million votes, beating Ms Hall by over 276,000 votes, representing a swing of 3.2% to Labour. He won nine of the 14 constituencies, including two gains from the Tories.

Following his re-election, Mr Khan took to his X (formerly Twitter) platform, urging Londoners to continue building a city that is fairer, safer, greener, and more affordable for everyone. In a post seen on his platform, he said simply, “London: Let’s get back to work” and shared a video highlighting all the key areas he had pledged to the London electorate that he would work on once re-elected.

These areas included making free school meals permanent, freezing TfL fares until 2025, building 40,000 new council homes, putting an extra 1,300 police officers on the streets of London, investing in youth clubs to steer young Londoners away from gangs and crimes, preparing to end rough sleeping by 2030, and providing more support for renters and creating more than 150,000 jobs by 2028.

Many users on X congratulated Mr Khan on his re-election, with one user praising his leadership on air quality and another expressing pride in having campaigned for him over the past few weeks and months. The Mayor of #DhakaNorth also congratulated Mr Khan on his victory and expressed a desire for continued engagement between their offices and strengthened ties between #DhakaNorth and #London.

Nonetheless, Mr Khan’s victory was a resounding one, and Londoners can expect to see him continue to work towards a fairer, safer, greener, and more affordable city for all.
