Ten Hag Breaks Silence on Greenwood’s Comeback

Mason Greenwood’s reintegration into the Manchester United team would apparently be welcomed by Erik ten Hag.

Since January of last year, Greenwood, age 21, has not appeared for United. That was prior to his arrest and charges of attempted rape, using coercive or controlling behavior, and assault causing actual bodily harm. The Crown Prosecution Service announced in February that charges against Greenwood had been withdrawn as a result of key witnesses quitting their cases and “new information coming to light.” However, United continued to suspend the forward and made it plain that they would start a thorough internal inquiry before deciding on his long-term future.

Discover Walks Football is aware that other parties, notably the women’s squad and the Red Devils’ corporate sponsors, may eventually decide how things turn out for Greenwood. According to a recent Sun article, Ten Hag would be “happy” to add the 21-year-old to his team in time for the upcoming season.

The story also states that United’s owners, the Glazer family, will eventually make the choice and that they anticipate doing so in the coming week. It’s also said that certain women’s team players at the club want Greenwood gone, despite the wishes of some of his former teammates for his return.

The club administration was anxious about how Greenwood’s re-representation of United could impact sponsorships and business arrangements, and they were right to be. His return would almost certainly result in a big wave of criticism against United. The player, who was born in Bradford, has a contract that goes through June 2025, and it’s been reported that the Red Devils may try to loan him out to a foreign team next season.

Ten Hag has remained tight-lipped on Greenwood’s situation, saying that the decision isn’t up to him. When the academy graduate’s charges were dropped, the United manager was asked if he could shed any light on the club’s internal review. “No. Nothing,” Ten Hag replied. “I can’t add nothing, I refer to the statement of the club.”

According to reports, the Red Devils have spoken with Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan about a potential loan deal. Greenwood, who joined United for the first time at the age of six, will keep receiving his £75,000 weekly pay after signing a four-year contract with the team in February 2021.

Less than a year later, the England international, who has only played once for his country, was detained for the first time when a lady accused him of physical and sexual abuse on social media, prompting Manchester United to suspend him without delay. After being charged in October of last year, Greenwood was scheduled to go on trial in November.

However, the CPS stated in February that the charges had been dropped. The CPS does not determine whether a person is guilty or innocent; rather, it makes an independent judgment on whether the charges are substantial enough for the criminal court to examine. They continued in a statement, “We have a responsibility to keep cases under constant evaluation.
