This summer, iconic London retailer Selfridges is transforming Oxford Street with a unique and eye-catching addition – a custom-designed climbing column reaching 40 feet (10 meters) tall. The column which has just been unveiled this week, offers a first-of-its-kind opportunity for shoppers and visitors to experience the thrill of climbing right outside the store.
The column has been designed by Los Angeles-based PLAYLAB studio, and it references the architectural details of the historic Selfridges façade. The towering climbing experience isn’t the only way Selfridges is celebrating sports this summer! It is part of their “Sportopia” season, which is bringing numerous sports-themed events and collaborations with major brands like Lacoste, Champion, and Nike to both their London and Birmingham stores.
The addition of the climbing column aligns with the growing popularity of climbing as a sport. The sport’s recent inclusion in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and its upcoming presence in the 2024 Â鶹APP Games has fueled interest in this activity.
The climbing experience is open to the public until August 26, 2024, and a session is £ 12.50 for kids and £ 16.50 for adults. Each session lasts for 45 minutes, and you can make your booking on the official
