Formula 1 is roaring back to Istanbul. After an 11-year absence (with a stuttering attempt to revive in between), the glitzy motor race will return to the historic Turkish city in 2026. Officials confirmed the thrilling news this week. Preparations are already underway for Istanbul’s grand F1 homecoming in 2026. A tender process for the race venue took place in April 2024 and was recently completed.  

Turkish authorities see hosting F1 again as a prime opportunity to showcase Istanbul on the global stage. The prestigious race will attract high-networth investors and visitors and give a major boost to tourism revenue.

The Handover Begins

According to Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the Formula 1 circuit belongs to the government’s General Directorate of Foundations. Ersoy stated that site deliveries will begin the first week of May 2024, with the current tenant vacating to make way for a new operator.

“The handover will be made to the new tenant who wins the tender,” Minister Ersoy explained. “Then the process of bringing Formula 1 races to Turkey will begin quickly as of 2026.”
