Sant Jordi, Barcelona’s iconic celebration of love and literature, is just days away, and the city is abuzz with anticipation.
As visitors flock to experience this cherished event firsthand, one place that stands out as a quintessential symbol of the festivities is the renowned La Rambla Boulevard.
The 1.2-kilometer tree-lined pedestrian street, considered the most well-known in central Barcelona, is poised to more than double the number of stands selling books and roses for this iconic celebration.
According to reports, the boulevard will host over 435 of the city’s book and rose-selling stands, contributing significantly to the overall festive atmosphere.
After the COVID-19 pandemic dimmed the splendor of past Sant Jordi celebrations, Barcelona is determined to restore the event’s full glory, with La Rambla leading the way.
Marià MarÃn, a member of Catalonia’s booksellers’ guild, announced during a press conference that a staggering 94 stands for book and rose sellers are expected throughout the street, promising an unforgettable experience for those celebrating love and literature.
The streets of Barcelona will be transformed into a vibrant literary haven, with a total of 435 stands selling books and roses – a feat never seen before.
Existing bookstores will also contribute to the festivities, with around 100 stands set up in front of their establishments, adding to the overall count of 435 stands lining the streets.
Beyond the abundance of book and rose vendors, this year’s festival promises even more excitement, with an increased number of author signings and events planned by organizers.
Determined to avoid the overcrowding experienced last year on Passeig de Grà cia, careful measures have been taken to ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for all.
Encouraging a year-round love for reading and the Catalan language, organizers are urging attendees to purchase books throughout the entire year, to read continuously, and to embrace the richness of the Catalan tongue, as they strive to “live in Catalan” and celebrate this great language.
With the iconic La Rambla leading the charge and the city buzzing with anticipation, Barcelona’s Sant Jordi festival on April 23rd, 2024, promises to be an unforgettable celebration of love, literature, and Catalan culture that you won’t want to miss.
