Ilya Uladzimiravich Ivashka is a Belarusian professional tennis player, he was born in the year 1994 on February 24. He is a very successful tennis player ranked among the top 40 globally by the Association of Tennis Professionals which he attained in June 2002. He currently holds the position of the number one Belarusian singles player.

Ivashka was born in Minsk, Belarus. He was born into a very supportive family. His father is Uladzimir, his mother is Anzhela, and his brother is Aleksei. His father introduced him to tennis at the age of 5. He fell in love with the sport while watching his father play with his friends.

2. Ilya Ivashka is married to the twin sister of a famous Russian tennis player

 
Ilya is married to Veronika Shkliaeva.Veronika happens to be the twin sister of Karen Khachanov a prominent Russian tennis player. She is a very supportive wife. The two currently have no children yet. 

3. He was motivated by Andy Murray

 
Ilya started competing at a young age. Unlike his brother who had changed into almost 25 sports in his early years, Ilya was patient with tennis. His passion grew over time from watching his father play with his companions while he was only 12 years old until it was his turn in junior-level competitions.
 
Ivashka joined the prestigious tournaments in Bradenton for his early nurturing. He remembers training in the same camp with Andy Murray who was then in the top 10 of the Pepperstone ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) ranking. This became a highlight in his career. Having the chance to watch Murray play and taking a photo with him motivated him toward the tennis profession.

This was a full circle moment for Ilya when he got a chance to train with Murray in Rotterdam. Ivashka showed him the picture he took of them when Murray was in their junior training camp as earlier discussed. He was super excited. Ilya described him as a very nice and kind-hearted person. 

5. Ilya Ivashka skipped college to practice tennis

 
His parents wanted him to attend college in the United States. Before that happened he secured a spot at the Pepperstone ATP tournaments in Kazakhstan. He was 19 years old at the time.
 
The opportunity thrilled him and he had to do a lot of training and work. Hence, he didn’t join college but pursued his passion for tennis even more. 

6. Ivashka Ilya’s stardom came in 2018

 
Ilya’s career glory was during the top 150 tournaments where he was ranked 147 in 2018 after qualifying for the semi-finals of that same year. In the Open 13 in Marseille, he ranked number 193 in the world. Hence defeating Laslo Djere and becoming the second seed. 

7. He was the first Belarusian tour-level semi-finalist

Ilya made a record to be the first Belarusian tour level after Max Mirnyi in 2005 in Rotterdam. He also managed to enter the top 100 in August 2018 after a good third-round run and also a qualifier. But he lost to fourth seed Kelvin Anderson at the Master 1000 level in the 2018 Canadian Open. 

8. Ilya Ivashka’s big wins came in 2021 

 
Ilya reached the first quarter-final in 2012 at the Andalucía Open. He defeated two Spaniards but was later defeated by the third Spaniard, Jaume Munar.
 
He managed his second semi-final in his career at the BMW Open in Munich as a qualifier. He had three years in running after his final four at the 2018 Open 13 Marseille. His defeat against the top seed, two-time champion, and world no .6 Alexander Zverev was one of the biggest wins of his career.
 
He also qualified and reached his third quarter-final in the same year 2021 at the Eastbourne international defeating Alexei Popyrin. His other great achievement was winning and placing world no .79 on 28 June 2021 on his start in the main draw at Wimbledon.
 
He reached the fourth round for the first time in his career defeating Jaume Munar and two others during the Wimbledon contest. He finally lost to seventh seed Matteo Berrettini but still achieved no .63 on 12 July 2021.
 
At the U.S. Open, he reached the third round for the first time in his career defeating Tennys Sandgren and Vasek Pospisil before losing again to the sixth seed Matteo Berrettini. A month later after reaching the semi-finals at the Astana Open he made it to the top 50  as the world No.45 on 27 September 2021. 

9. He enjoyed significant achievements in 2022

In the year 2022, Ilya had a leg injury forcing him to withdraw from Melbourne Summer Set 1, Sydney Classic, and Australian Open. He later recovered and started playing at the Open Sud de France. But lost in the first round to Mackenzie McDonald.
 
He went to play at the Geneva Open and reached his second quarter-final of the season of the Open 13 defeating third seed Denis Shapovalov. But he was defeated by Joao Sousa. He played at the Rosmalen Open Hertogenbosch. This led him to reach the top 40 listing on 20 June 2022.
 
Ivashka played at the Atlanta Open as a semi-finalist before losing to Alex De Minau. He also played at the U.S. Open and reached the third round for the second time in a row defeating world no. 10 and eighth seed Hubert Hurkacz. 

10. Ilya has won international awards

 
Ilya is known to be high singles ranking by the association of tennis. He also has a career-high doubles ranking of world’s no.340 that he reached in 2016. He is currently the number one Belarusian men’s singles player.
 
He has won five international federations of tennis single titles and three international federations of tennis doubles titles. He has won over 9 games while representing Belarus in the Davis Cup.
