Anne Archer was born on August 24, 1947, in Los Angeles, California. She is an American actress and daughter of actors John Archer and Marjorie Lord. In 1968, Anne graduated from Pitzer College in Claremont, California. It has been noted that her stepfather was the Los Angeles baker and philanthropist, Harry Volk.

Anne was named Miss Golden Globe in 1971. In the following year, she appeared in her feature film debut The Honkers in 1972. Anne had supporting roles like Cancel My Reservation in 1972, The All-American in 1973, and Trackdown in 1976. She is known for making appearances in Good Guys Wear Black in 1978, Paradise Alley in 1978, and Hero at Large in 1980.

1. Anne’s Personal Life

In 1969, Anne marries William Davis. They had one son, Thomas William Davis who was born on August 18, 1972. However, the couple divorced in 1977. She later married Terry Jastrow in 1979. Together they had one son, Jeffrey Tucker Jastrow, he was born on October 18, 1984. Her son Tommy was the head of the Church of Scientology’s Celebrity Centre International in Los Angeles. 

In 1991, Anne openly shared her abortion story in the book The Choices We Made: Twenty-Five Women and Men Speak Out About Abortion.

2. The Beginning of Her Career

After she graduated college, Anne appeared as Romona in the “Ramona Pageant” in Hemet, California before she moved to New York. In the 1970s, Anne appeared in the following television series Hawaii Five-O, the Mod Squad, Ironside, and Little House on the Prairie.

In 1971, Anne was given the title Miss Golden Globe. Her first feature film was the 1972 comedy The Honkers where she co-starred opposite James Coburn and Lois Nettleton.  In 1973, Anne was a regular cast member on the short-lived ABC sitcom Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. 

3. Anne’s Main Character Moment

In 1976, Anne was cast in the American drama film Lifeguard. She shared the screen with Sam Eliott, Stephen Young, and Kathleen Quinlan. Anne got the role of Cathy, who was Rick’s old flame and in the film is recently divorced. The film revolves around Rick Carlson who receives an invitation to his 15-year high school reunion, he then reunited with Larry his old high school friend.

At the reunion, Rick and Cathy rekindle their relationship and they begin seeing each other. This was a big step for Anne because she was mostly offered side character roles and supporting roles. Her performance in the show enabled her to get more leading roles in later films.

4. Her Role in Fatal Attraction

Anne earned widespread acclaim for starring as Beth Rogerson Gallagher in the erotic psychological thriller film Fatal Attraction in 1987. In the film, she plays the wife of the main character Daniel Gallagher who is played by Michael Douglas. The film was a box office success and garnered a total of $320.1 million, and earned the title of Highest-grossing film of 1987 worldwide. 

Her performance earned her nominations for the Academy Award, BAFTA Award, and Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress. However, the film itself received a total of six nominations which include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Glen Close, Best Supporting Actress for Anne, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.

5. Her Films After Fame in 1987

After Anne gained major fame in 1987 following the film Fatal Attraction, she got roles in the films Love at Large in 1990, Narrow Margin in 1990, Eminent Domain, Patriot Alley in 1992, Body of Evidence in 1993, Family Prayer in 1993, Clear and Present Danger in 1994, and There Goes My Baby in 1994.

In 1993, Anne played Clare Kane in Robert Altman’s Short Cuts. Her performance in the film earned her a Golden Globe Special Ensemble Cast Award and Venice Film Festival Special Volpi Cup.

Anne co-starred in the war film Rules of Engagement and the action film The of War in 2000. Some of her other notable film credits include Man of the House in 2005 opposite Tomy Lee Jones, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past in 2009 where she shared the screen with Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Garner, and Lullaby in 2014.

Aside from these films, she also had recurring roles on several of television shows such as Boston Public, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Ghost Whisperer. From 2008 to 2009, Anne starred in the short-lived CW comedy-drama Privileged.

In 2014 and 2016, Anne played Jane Fonda in the premiere production of the play The Trial of Jane Fonda, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. 

7. Anne’s Role in Trafficked

In 2017, Anne got the opportunity to star in the American thriller drama film Trafficked which was directed by Will Wallace. The film however faced a lot of backlash due to the problems behind the scenes. The film was awarded one star out of five by Common Sense Media’s Jefferey M. Anderson. Even though Anne is seen in the first scenes of the movie, she gave it her all.

8. Her Latest Film

In 2021, Anne was cast in a recurring role in The Dropout. It is an American biographical crime miniseries and is based on the ABC News Podcast The Droput. The series is the first television production to be produced by Searchlight Television and is provided by the streaming service Hulu.

The series earned six nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards, some of the nominations include Outstanding Limited or Anthology series, Best Limited or Anthology series, or Television film. Anne’s performance as a recurring star has been applauded on many occasions and even though she is not part of the main cast, she is commended for her work. 

9. Her Role in The Church of Scientology

Anne was originally a Christian Scientist but her and her husband have been members of the Church of Scientology since 1975. From 1982 to 1986, she was a spokeswoman for Applied Scholastics which is the literacy training organization which is sponsored by the Church of Scientology.

Anne is still very involved with the church and even has her very own Scientology front group which is known as the Artists for Human Rights. In a video from 2018, she explains that her major goal is tackling the issue of global refugees. She also majorly advocates that people should start to get used to the idea of living together.
