One Jamie Allen, CNN senior writer, said that when Christgau talks, people listen.

4. Greil Marcus

Greil is an American writer, academic, music journalist, and cultural critic. He has been a prolific contributor to the New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and many other publications since 1967. Marcus is best known for books such as ” (1975), ” (1993), and ” (1997). He is best known for producing scholarly and literary essays that align rock music with culture and politics.

5. Andrew Porter

Distinguished music critic and scholar he was the most erudite and perceptive music critic of his generation. He was a well-conversant writer and wrote in great detail about his art knowledge. Music was part of him and particularly Opera and vocal music. He was involved in Opera Magazine till his passing.
