Karch Kiraly is an American volleyball player, coach, and broadcast commentator. His real name is Charles Frederick. He had a significant role in the U.S. National Team’s gold-medal victories at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games. In 1996, the first Olympics to incorporate beach volleyball, he went on to win the gold medal once more.

He is the only athlete (male or female) to have received an Olympic medal in both indoor and beach volleyball. Under the leadership of head coach Al Scates, he won three national titles while playing college volleyball for the UCLA Bruins.

The United States women’s national volleyball team won their first-ever gold medal under Kiraly’s leadership at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, giving her the “triple crown” of coaching an Olympic gold medal-winning team and winning gold medals in both indoor and beach volleyball herself.

2. Giba

Former Brazilian professional volleyball player Gilberto Amauri de Godoy Filho, also known as Giba, was an outside hitter. He was regarded as one of the finest volleyball players in the world for much of the 2000s. He played professionally in Argentina, Brazil, Italy, Russia, and for a brief period in the United Arab Emirates. Most people only recall him for his accomplishments with the national team.

He won eight South American Championships, three America’s Cups, eight World League championships, three World Grand Champions Cups, three World Championships (2002, 2006, 2010), a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and two silver medals at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Games while playing for the Brazilian National Team. At the age of 37, Giba left the world of professional volleyball in the summer of 2014.

Elizabeth May-Treanoris An American former professional beach volleyball player. She has won three Olympic gold medals and, as of August 2012, had won 112 matches in domestic and international competitions, making her the most successful female beach volleyball player.

In beach volleyball, May-Treanor and colleague Kerri Walsh Jennings won gold at the Summer Olympics in 2004, 2008, and 2012. Additionally, in 2003, 2005, and 2007, they captured the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. 

The two broke their previous record of 89 straight victories during a winning streak of 112 matches (19 straight tournament victories) in 2007鈥�2008, which they set during their partnership. They have been referred to as “the greatest beach volleyball team of all time.”

On August 8, 2012, May-Treanor announced her retirement from competitive sports after winning the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics with Walsh Jennings. In 2016, she was admitted to the Volleyball Hall of Fame.

4. Sergey Tetyukhin

Russian volleyball player Sergey Yuryevich Tetyukhin is a former player. In Uzbekistan’s Fergana, he was born. He plays as a passer-attacker and is 1.97 meters tall. He is one of just three male volleyball players鈥攖he other two are Samuele Papi and S茅rgio Santos鈥攖o have won four Olympic medals throughout the course of their extended athletic careers.

Tetyukhin, however, holds the distinction of being the only volleyball player in the world (male or female) to have received all three of those medals, including gold at the London Olympics and has won four Olympic medals in total. He participated in six Summer Olympics and carried the flag in 2016.

5. Zhu Ting

Volleyball player Zhu Ting is a professional in China. She was the former captain of the Chinese women’s national volleyball team and an outside hitter. She played from 2016 until 2019 with Vakfbank Istanbul. She now competes with Savino del Bene Scandicci in Italy.

A number of gold medals have been earned by Zhu and the Chinese national team in international competitions, including the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2019 World Cup.

Zhu has won 15 MVP awards since her debut in 2011 in competitions at all levels (including national teams and clubs), including the MVP prize at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She is regarded as one of the greatest and most decorated indoor volleyball players in history. 6. Emanuel Rego

Brazilian beach volleyball player Emanuel Fernando Sheffer Rego took part in five straight Summer Olympics beginning in 1996. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, he and Ricardo Santos won the gold medal in the men’s beach team competition.

A year later, after being assaulted by Neil Horan and winning a bronze medal in the men’s marathon, he famously handed his medal to his fellow countryman Vanderlei de Lima, who graciously declined.

7. Lang Ping

Chinese volleyball coach and former player “Jenny” Lang Ping played volleyball. She previously served as the team’s head coach for both the women’s national volleyball teams of the United States and China. At the 1984 Olympics, Lang earned the prize for most valuable player in women’s volleyball.

Lang was admitted to the Massachusetts’ Holyoke Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2002. In her native nation of the United States, Beijing, she led the women’s national team to a silver medal at the Olympics in 2008. The Chinese women’s national team went on to win a gold medal in the 2016 Olympics under Lang’s coaching, making her the only person in volleyball history鈥攎ale or female鈥攖o win an Olympic gold both as a player and a coach.

8. Andrea Giani

Andrea Giani won three World Championships in the 1990s with his national squad. He is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player. He is regarded as one of the all-time great volleyball players. He was a versatile player who could play as an outside hitter or middle blocker, but he also occasionally played the opposite.

9. Logan Tom

The head coach of the Israel women’s national volleyball team is Logan Maile Lei Tom, a former American beach and indoor volleyball player. She has competed as an outside hitter in four Olympics. Logan participated in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney as the youngest woman ever to be chosen for an American Olympic volleyball squad, at the age of 19.

She is a talented all-around player who gives the American serve receive and defensive solidity as well as a reliable attack and block at the net for the team. From 2000 until 2012, she played a significant role for the national team.

Tom won another silver medal with the national team at the 2012 Olympics after helping Team USA win a silver medal at the 2008 Olympics and was awarded Best Scorer. She also received the 2004 FIVB World Grand Prix Most Valuable Player award.

Along with Clay Stanley and Todd Rogers, she was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in October 2021.

10. Kim Yeon-koung

Professional volleyball player Kim Yeon-koung, formerly of the FIVB Athletes’ Commission, is from South Korea. She was the previous captain of the South Korean national team and an outside hitter. In August 2021, she made the announcement that she was leaving the national team.

After playing for Heungkuk Life in South Korea for four seasons and JT Marvelous in Japan for two seasons, Kim signed a three-year contract with Fenerbah莽e in 2011. In 2016, she agreed to another two-year agreement with Fenerbah莽e that included an additional season. She played in the Chinese volleyball league for the 2017鈥�18 season before returning to Turkey the following year to play for Eczacba艧 VitrA.

Kim achieved an Olympic record for most points scored (207), surpassing Yekaterina Gamova’s previous mark of 204 points set in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, despite the fact that South Korea finished in fourth place. Kim was also named the Most Valuable Player and Best Scorer at the 2012 London Olympics.

Kim is the first volleyball player in Asian history to win the CEV Women’s Champions League MVP title. Kim is the first athlete to have four names on the list of volleyball players who have recorded 30 or more points in a single Olympic Games match.

11. Renan Dal Zotto

The head coach of Brazil’s men’s national volleyball team is Brazilian Renan Dal Zotto, a former volleyball player who participated in three Summer Olympics. Rio Grande do Sul’s So Leopoldo is where he was born. He was a member of the Brazilian team that competed in the 1980 Olympics and placed sixth. He competed in five games.

He won the silver medal with the Brazilian team at the 1984 Olympic competition four years later. He took part in all six games. He was a member of the Brazilian squad that placed fourth in the Olympic competition at the 1988 Games. In the 1990s and 2000s, he worked as a coach primarily with Brazilian clubs while also spending one season in Italy.

He took over for Bernardo Rezende, who had served as the team’s head coach for the previous 16 years when he was named in 2017.

The FIVB also punished him after video footage clearly showed him rolling a ball on the court purposely in the middle of a rally. This occurred in a crucial fifth set against Russia in 2018. He did not express regret for the incident or accept responsibility in his remarks.

12. Sheilla Castro

Sheilla Tavares de Castro, a former volleyball player from Brazil who competed in both the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics, was born on July 1, 1983, in Belo Horizonte. The Brazilian national team won the gold medal on both occasions. She participated in the Olympics in 2016 when Brazil finished in fifth place. She left her position on April 9, 2022.

13. Vladimir Grbi膰

A former volleyball player from Serbia named Vladimir “Vanja” Grbi. He played as a passer-side attacker and is 193 cm tall. He is a volleyball Hall of Fame inductee and Nikola Grbi’s brother.

He won a gold medal with the FR Yugoslavia national volleyball team in the 2000 Summer Olympics and a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics.

In 1996 and 2000, the Yugoslav Olympic Committee named Grbi the finest sportsman of the year. In 1999 and 2000, he also won the Golden Badge, the nation’s top athletic honour. Until his retirement in 2009 at the age of 38, Vladimir participated in a total of 242 games for his National Team.

14. Andrea Zorzi

Former Italian volleyball player Andrea Zorzi won two World Championships in 1990 and 1994 while playing for Italy’s men’s national squad. Zorzi, a 201 cm athlete, was a proficient spiker who typically played opposite hitter. He gained notoriety as Zorro.

After making his national team debut in 1986 with Bormio, he earned 325 caps in total. He participated in the Olympics in 1988, 1992, and 1996, winning a silver medal.

He competed for nearly all of Italy’s top volleyball clubs, notably Maxicono Parma and Sisley Treviso, and won a number of championships, including two Italian Championships (1990, 1996) and one European Champions League in 1995. 15. Joel Charles Despaigne

Joel Charles Despaigne is a retired Cuban volleyball player who competed in two Summer Olympics in a row: the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona (4th place) and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta (6th place).

Despaigne, often known as El Diablo, has 350 national team appearances for Cuba. He was named the world’s best volleyball player for the 1989/1990 season. Despaigne is a volleyball coach who lives in Italy.

16. Marv Dunphy

American volleyball coach and former player Marvin Alex Dunphy. His tenure at Pepperdine University is largely remembered. Pepperdine won four NCAA Division I Championships during his leadership. His record is 612-277 (.688) over his career. In addition, he helped the American men’s national volleyball team win a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in 1988. In 2017, he ended his coaching career.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the International Volleyball Hall of Fame both include Dunphy. The Volleyball Hall of Fame also inducted his 1988 Olympic team.

17. Flo Hyman

Volleyball player Flora Jean “Flo” Hyman was an American athlete. She won a silver medal at the Olympics and was a Japanese volleyball professional.

Hyman competed in the 1982 World Championship and the 1981 World Cup, both of which the United States earned the bronze medal in. The “Flying Clutchman,” a quick, hard-impacting volleyball spike that flies at 110 mph (180 km/h), was one of Hyman’s specialities.

Hyman, who was by this point the team’s tallest and oldest player, led the US to the silver medal at the 1984 Olympics after China defeated them in the final. They had been defeated by the Americans previously in the competition.

Gabi is the alias of Gabriela Braga Guimares, a professional indoor volleyball player from Brazil. She is a spiker who plays outside. She participated in the Women’s competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics and took home a silver medal.

Guimares competed for her country and defeated Italy 3-2 to earn the bronze medal at the 2014 World Championship.

Guimares competed for the Brazilian club Rexona Ades Rio at the 2015 FIVB Club World Championship, where her squad succumbed to the Swiss Vol茅ro Z眉rich in the bronze medal game. She assisted her country in capturing the gold medal at the 2015 South American Championship, and she also received honours for Most Valuable Player and Best Outside Hitter.

19. Phil Dalhausser

Philip “Phil” Peter Dalhausser is a former professional beach volleyball blocker who was born in Switzerland. He and his previous playing partner, Todd Rogers, won the AVP Tour and the FIVB world championships in 2007.

In 2010, Dalhausser and Rogers were named the top team on both the local US circuit and the FIVB international tour. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Dalhausser and Rogers won gold medals.

20. Regla Torres

Regla Torres Herrer is a former Cuban volleyball player who won three Olympic gold medals with the Cuban women’s national volleyball team, the first at the age of 17 in 1992. She has been competing on the international stage since she was 14 years old.

She was a crucial member of the Cuban national team’s success in the 1990s as a middle blocker, and she helped her team win gold medals in the 1996 and 2000 Olympics. Torres helped Cuba win the World Championships in 1994 and 1998, and he was named MVP in both competitions.

Wilfredo Le贸n Venero is a professional volleyball player of Cuban and Polish descent. From 2007 until 2012, he was a part of the Cuban national team, and he is currently a member of the Polish national team and Sir Safety Perugia. He won a silver medal at the 2010 World Championship and two NORCECA titles (2009, 2011).

Many regard him as one-of-a-kind after leading Cuba to a silver medal at the 2010 World Championship in Italy, alongside Yoandy Leal and Robertlandy Simon. Many observers believe him to be one of the leaders of Cuban volleyball’s “Miracle Generation.” Le贸n is regarded as one of the top volleyball players in the world.

Artur Kacper Szalpuk is a Polish professional volleyball player who currently plays for Projekt Warsaw and the Poland national team. Szalpuk took gold at the 2018 World Championships in Italy.

He competed in the first edition of the 2015 European Games when his national team finished fourth. In July, he played for Poland’s team A against the United States during the World League 2015 Intercontinental round in Krak贸w. He made his senior team debut on July 4, 2015, in a 1-3 loss to the United States.

Poland was crowned World Champion for the first time on September 30, 2018. Poland defeated Brazil 3-0 in the final to retain its championship from 2014.

He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Nalbert stands 195 cm (77 in) and is a passer-attacker. He won two World Leagues (2003 and 2004) with the Brazilian national team, one World Cup (2003), one World (2002), and one Olympic gold medal.

Saori Kimura is a former Japanese volleyball player for the Toray Arrows. She was also a member of the All-Japan women’s volleyball team and its captain. She competed in the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2008 Summer Olympics, the 2012 Summer Olympics, and the 2016 Summer Olympics, where she won a bronze medal in 2012. She could play any position since she was so adaptable.

Toray confirmed on July 10, 2012, that Kimura will join VakfBank T眉rk Telekom for the 2012-13 season. On June 3, 2013, Daikin (a Galatasaray Daikin sponsor) confirmed that Kimura will join the club the next season.

28. Christina Bauer

Christina Bauer is a volleyball player from France. She competed for France in the 2007 Women’s European Volleyball Championship. She was born over the Christmas vacation in Bergen, Norway, to a French father, Jean-Luc Bauer, a professional volleyball player, and a Norwegian mother, Tone Bauer, a handball player who spent several years in France.

Anne-Sophie Bauer, her younger sister, also played professionally at Le Cannet Volleyball. After being called to play for Yamamay Busto Arsizio, she speaks French, Norwegian, and English, and is currently learning Italian. 29. Peter Blang茅

Peter Blang茅 is a retired Dutch volleyball player who represented his country in four consecutive Summer Olympics beginning in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea. Blang茅 and the Dutch national volleyball team won gold at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, defeating Italy in the final.

His final Olympic appearance came in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. He worked as a setter. Blang茅 was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2012.

30. St茅phane Antiga

St茅phane Antiga is a former player and professional volleyball coach from France. He was a member of the France national team from 1998 to 2010, and he competed in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. He currently serves as the head coach of DevelopRes Rzesz贸w.

He has represented 麻豆APP UC, 麻豆APP Volley, Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo, Portol Palma de Mallorca, Skra Bechat贸w, and Delecta Bydgoszcz in his career. He secured a contract to return to PGE Skra Bechat贸w in April 2013. He retired as a player after winning the gold medal in the 2014 Polish Championship with the club Bechat贸w.

He has silver medals from the European Championships in Germany in 2003 and Turkey in 2009, as well as a bronze medal from the World Championship in 2002. Antiga played 306 games with the French national team and was previously captain of the team.
