15 Scariest Female Murderers


 

It is a common occurrence to associate murder with men. This is because females are considered more docile and rarely resort to violence, leading to murder. However, this is not to say that females do not kill. On the contrary, some of the females in this list have committed some of the most vicious murders in history. They used methods with little violence, albeit brutal, such as arsenic.

1 Andrea Yates

She was raised in Texas and had a decent life before meeting her husband. Her husband was a Christian extremist who followed the Biblical “procreation” rule to a fault. He believed that couples in marriage had to get as many children as possible. However, Andre faced severe postpartum depression after several pregnancies without taking time to recover. Visits to her psychiatrist were unsuccessful in helping her problem, and she tried to commit suicide several times. She was usually admitted for these attempts, and her psychiatrist advised against her bearing any more children.

However, the couple got a fifth child, and her antics worsened. She was rarely left alone with the children, but her husband once left for work to provide for the family. Andre filled the bathtub and proceeded to drown all five of her children one at a time. She later called her husband to inform him of her actions. She was arrested in 2001, found not guilty for reason of insanity, and confined to an asylum.

2  Aileen Wuornos

Aileen was brought up in an abusive home and was constantly raped by her male relatives. She was thrown out in her teenage years and had to find a way to survive out in the cold. The sexual abuse she had faced made her resort to prostitution to survive. At 30 years, she met Tyria Moore, who would become her lover and confidant for nearly five years.

She still practiced prostitution, and it was in 1989 that she murdered her first victim, a client. She continued to kill six more clients in Florida and stole their belongings. These murders spun from 1989 to 1990, when she was later arrested, and the belongings of one victim were traced back to her. She was arrested in 1991 and sentenced to death in 2002.

3  Angela Simpson

This murderer falls outside the docile temperament of women, and her case is one of the most brutal murders. She was incarcerated in 2012 for the first-degree murder of Terry Neely, a disabled man committed to a wheelchair. She reportedly lured him to her apartment with promises of drugs and sex.

Upon getting there, Angela beat impaled and removed Terry’s teeth while making him watch. This torture did not result in instantaneous death for the disabled man. Instead, it went on for three days. She did not leave it at that; she strangled and stabbed her victim 50 times. In interviews conducted in jail, she does not show remorse and is recorded uttering bitter words regarding the crime.

4 Nannie Doss

Nannie Doss was raised in a strict homestead on a farm, and like most girls her age, she was curious about love and romance. In pursuit of her fairytale with the happy ending, she murdered 11 people, including four husbands, her mother, one mother-in-law, two sisters, two children, and a grandchild.

At the time of her conviction, she did not act harshly and was often seen giggling or smiling and was dubbed the Giggling Granny. She was incarcerated for eight murders, which she confessed to, and was sentenced to life imprisonment since the state did not allow female death sentences. She later died of leukemia in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.

5 Jane Toppan

Toppan, a nurse, charged with proper patient care, killed dozens of patients left under her watch. She began by experimenting on sickly patients with morphine and other opiates. At her arrest, Toppan had killed 31 people, to which she confessed. Of these, only 12 were confirmed, and she was found not guilty by insanity reasons in 1902. She was involuntarily committed to the Taunton Insane Hospital, where she would spend her life.

6 Juana Barraza

Juana is a Mexican professional wrestler and was dubbed The Little Old Lady Killer. She got this name during the investigation of old lady murders rising in Mexico City in 2005. She specifically targeted old ladies and robbed them of their possessions. She went unnoticed since the police suspected that the perpetrator of the murders was male.

However, she was arrested, and her fingerprint DNA matched that found on some victims. She was later convicted of 16 counts of murder and aggravated robbery and was sentenced to 759 years in prison.

7 Judias Buenoano

She was dubbed the Black Widow and was found guilty of murdering her husband and son and the attempted murder of her boyfriend. Her method of killing was the use of arsenic poison. It was not until her attempt on her boyfriend that this was brought to light. The bodies of her husband and son were exhumed, and arsenic poison was found to be the cause of death in both instances. After their deaths, she would collect insurance claim payouts. She was incarcerated in 1984 and sentenced to twelve years for the attempt on her boyfriend’s life and death for killing her husband. She died by the electric chair in 1998.

8 Mary Ann Cotton

Mary Ann Cotton, an English woman, convicted of killing her stepson, was put to death for the crime. She was only ever found guilty of one murder. Still, it is thought that she was a serial murderer who murdered several others, including 11 of her children and three of her spouses, all for their insurance policies.

9 Myra Hindley

“The most horrible woman in Britain” was used to describe Myra Hindley. For her part in the deaths of five children, the Moors killer was sentenced to life imprisonment. Hindley and her lover, Ian Brady, were found guilty of sexual assault on the victims and the murder of the five children. She died in prison in 2002.

10  Kristen Gilbert

In Northampton, Massachusetts, Kristen Gilbert—a former nurse at a veterans hospital—injected four patients with excessive amounts of epinephrine, killing them all. She was found guilty on all charges and was sentenced to four consecutive life sentences and an additional 20 years without parole.

11  Leonarda Cianciulli

Leonarda was a prolific Italian serial killer known for her cannibal tendencies. She led a normal life until 1939 when her eldest and favorite son decided to enlist in the army amidst preparations for World War II. She believed that in order to protect him in the war, she had to offer human sacrifices. With this in mind, she set her intentions on her three neighbors. Leonarda coaxed her victims to write letters to their loved ones that they were departing to see them.

However, prior to their departure, they would visit Leonarda’s house, where she spiked their wine and murdered them with an axe. Later, she would boil their body remains and other soap ingredients to make soap, and the blood she would use to make tea cakes which she would serve to her guests. This is one of the most chilling cases of all time.

12  Amelia Dyer

She was a trained nurse by profession and a mother. After her husband died in 1869, she got into baby farming to support her family. A practice involving taking care of babies in return for government compensation. One would expect that she took excellent care of these babies, being a mother herself. However, she starved and gave these babies opiates to their deaths.

Later she would resort to strangling her victims with white cord and throwing their remains in the River Thames. Her activities were discovered when the body of one of her victims was retrieved from the water. She was hanged in 1896 and is considered one of the most horrific British murderers.

13  Genene Jones

This is another nurse on the list. She specialized in taking care of children patients as a pediatric nurse. What makes her crimes more heinous is they involve children. She used poison on her patients and enjoyed ‘saving’ them from death. However, not all were saved, and she was arrested in 1982, twelve years after acquiring her license. Genene was found guilty of killing two infants and was. This number is a fraction of the dozens of murders she is suspected of having committed, which was not proven.

14  Miyuki Ishikawa

The main offender in the Kotobuki San’in event was a Japanese midwife, real estate agent, and serial murderer named Miyuki Ishikawa. During the US occupation of Japan, she and a number of collaborators are said to have killed scores of newborns.

15 Dorothea Puente

She operated a boarding home in Sacramento, California, where she murdered a number of elderly and mentally challenged guests in the 1980s before collecting their Social Security benefits. She was found guilty of murder and was sentenced to two life sentences. She died while carrying out the remainder of her sentence in 2011.
