Vitiligo is a rare acquired pigmentary condition involving the skin that is characterized by circumscribed, depigmented macules and patches. It is believed that Vitiligo is frequently associated with some disorders which are of autoimmune origin. Thyroid abnormalities are the most common disorders believed to bring the rise of vitiligo to individuals.
The classical sign of the presence of vitiligo is the presence of pale patchy areas in which the skin is depigmented. Vitiligo usually tends to occur on the extremities (arms and limbs). Other than depigmentation, some people usually experience itch before another patch occurs.
Initially, these patches are small, but they later grow and change shape. The lesions are prominent on the wrists, hands, and faces of individuals affected. Vitiligo can also be experienced around the mouth, eyes, nostrils, umbilicus, and genitalia areas.

1. Michael Jackson
Dubbed the King of Pop, Michael Joseph Jackson was a singer, songwriter, dancer, and philanthropist who was born on 29th August 1958. Michael Jackson was and is still regarded as one of the most significant cultural personalities of the 20th century. He made a major contribution to the music industry, dance, and fashion.
His personal life was also publicized and was always a global figure until his death in 2009. Michael Jackson is one of the famous people who was diagnosed with vitiligo. This was clear through one glove he used to wear on one arm, the makeup he used, and how his skin whitened that left many people thinking he was using bleaching agents.
2. Winnie Harlow
Born on 27th July 1994, Chantelle Whitney Brown-Young is a Canadian fashion model and public spokesperson on vitiligo. Winnie Harlow, her professional name, got prominent in 2014 as she came out and contested for America’s Next Top Model. Winnie was diagnosed with vitiligo at the age of four and that is how her life changed.
She was then subjected to bullying by other children who referred her to as a “cow, zebra, and other slurs”. Winnie also received verbal harassment by both white and black students which made her switch schools on several occasions. At one point, she contemplated taking her life after she dropped out of school in high school.
However, she came out and became the first model to walk in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show while suffering from vitiligo in 2016. Winnie Harlow has appeared on several projects of renowned personnel including Beyoncé. She was recognized and honored as one of the BBC 100 Women in 2018.

3. Edouard Charles
Edouard Charles Phillippe, a French politician who served as mayor of Le Havre since 2020 is another famous person with vitiligo. Charles also served as Prime Minister of France from 15th May 2017 up to 3rd July 2020 under the reign of President Emmanuel Macron.
Since he was Prime Minister, Charles announced that he had vitiligo which is noticeable through the white patch of hair on his beard. He is the first Prime Minister to keep a beard since Prime Minister Henri in 1951.
4. Krizz Kaliko
Samuel William Christopher Watson who is popularly known by his stage name Krizz Kaliko is a professional American rapper, singer, songwriter, and voice actor. Krizz is renowned for his major work with his fellow hometown native artists.
Krizz Kaliko also suffers from vitiligo which clears through the patches on his face which inspired him to name his debut album after this disease. He was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder which he named his second album.
5. Palanisamy Sathasivam

Palanisamy Sathasivam is an Indian jurist who served as the country’s 40th Chief Justice from 2013 to 2014. Sathasivam was named Governor of Kerala from 5 September 2014 to 4 September 2019 after retiring from the judiciary. Sathasivam is the second Tamil Nadu judge to be appointed CJI, following M. Patanjali Sastri.
He is also the first former Supreme Court Chief Justice to be named Governor of a state. Palanisamy also suffers from vitiligo which clearly visible through the patches he has on his face.
6. Chandrababu Naidu
Nara Chandrababu Naidu (born 20 April 1950) is an Indian politician who currently serves as the head of the opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. From 2004 to 2014, he was the head of the opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He was also the previous Chief Minister of United Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004 and the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2019.
He is also United Andhra Pradesh’s longest-serving Chief Minister. (9 Years). Naidu also suffers from vitiligo. His condition is clearly visible through the white patch that is on his chin area.
7. Gautam Vijaypat
Born on 9th September 1965, Gautam Vijaypat Singhania is an influential Indian industrialist. Gautam is the chairperson as well as managing director of the world’s largest producer of suiting fabric, the Raymond Group.
He was diagnosed with vitiligo at a young age which he lived with all these years. However, when he was in his 30s, the condition progressed due to the use of various medications to try to resolve vitiligo.

8. Laura Gregory
The British beauty received her first patches when she was 12 years old. Laura Gregory was being bullied and body-shamed for having Vitiligo at the age when girls usually become beauty conscious. Rather than being sad or depressed, she chose to compete in beauty pageants and the fashion industry to demonstrate that she is attractive even with her skin condition.
9. Dean Edwards
A renowned chef, Dean Edwards has always been a regular on television since 2009 showing his skills in cooking but also standing up for people with vitiligo. Chef Dean has never used any make-up to hide his vitiligo patches.
He came out and uses his public platforms to raise awareness about Vitiligo. Dean Edwards also has a blog where he spreads awareness about this condition.
10. Asifa Bhutto

The daughter of the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto, Asifa also suffers from vitiligo. She has always been in the public eye but her self-esteem has never been lowered due to her condition.
She has always come out to stand out for people suffering from vitiligo and being mistreated in society. Asifa is also the brand ambassador of the anti-polio vaccination campaign in Pakistan. She has several vitiligo patches on her face.
Vitiligo has made several people lose self-esteem due to the slurs they receive for being different. However, everyone is supposed to stand out for people living with vitiligo as they are normal people too.
