10 Infamous Serial Killers from the 70s

Serial killing began in the 1970s and these notorious serial killers took over 600 lives collectively over that period. They operated out of countries worldwide and they really shocked the nations with how they performed their gruesome acts. The serial killer victims were either stabbed, strangled, poisoned, suffocated, burnt or molested. Unfortunately, despite their ruthless behaviour, they all escaped justice for years due to inadequate law enforcement and an unaware populace.

Psychologists revealed that most serial killers became monsters because of childhood trauma of some kind: physical or sexual abuse, emotionally distant or absent parents or family dysfunction. Therefore, today in this article we are going to look at the serial killers in the 70s and their stories which are hard to take in and often even harder to stomach.

1. Pedro Lopez

Pedro Lopez was a famous Colombian serial killer, fugitive and child rapist. He was also known as The Monster of the Andres and he murdered at least 110 girls and women in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, from 1969 to 1890.  Lopez claimed to have murdered 300 victims and other sources say he murdered up to 350 girls. In 1969 Lopez had been imprisoned for stealing but was later released and he got to travel throughout South Africa while performing most of his murders.

He was eventually captured in 1980 and was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the murders committed in Peru. He was later released in 1994 and was sent to a psychiatrist care where he only stayed for four years until he was released. As of now, Lopez’s whereabouts are unknown but he might be connected to a 2002 murder. Lopez stated in an interview that he would be happy to kill again.

By 1975, Little had already been captured 26 times but was released due to a lack of evidence. He was convicted in 2014 for the murder of three women and in 2018 for the murder of Denise Christie Brothers as well as several others in 2019. He may be the most prolific serial killer in U.S. history, confessing to 93 murders who were mostly sex workers and also linked to 60 others.

Kroll would violate his victim’s bodies after their murder because he wanted sexual partners who wouldn’t complain about his performance.

He was eventually captured in July 1976 when he told his neighbour about his toilet which had clogged because of guts. The police also found him cooking a hand when they arrived to arrest him. He was convicted of eight murders, but he confessed to a total of fourteen murders. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on 8 April 1982 but later died of a heart attack in 1991.
