Top 10 Best Polish Soccer (Football) Players of All Time


 

The Poland national football team has represented Poland in men’s international football competitions since its first match in 1921. The team is controlled by the Polish Football Association (PZPN), the governing body for football in Poland.

The country’s best result was a bronze medal, which Poland won in 1974 and 1982; this era is regarded as the golden era of Polish international football. This is because they have the best men which are great players of all time. Therefore, in the article are the top ten best Polish players of all time.

1. Robert Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski was born on 21 August 1988. He is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a striker for La Liga club Barcelona and captains the Poland national team.

Recognized for his positioning, technique, and finishing, Lewandowski is considered one of the best strikers of all time, as well as one of the most successful players in Bundesliga history.

He has scored over 600 senior career goals for club and country. He is widely regarded as one of the best players in the world. A full international for Poland since 2008, Lewandowski has earned over 130 caps and was a member of their team at UEFA Euro 2012, Euro 2016, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2020.

With 76 international goals, Lewandowski is the all-time top scorer for Poland and the third overall men’s international goalscorer in Europe, only behind Ferenc Puskás (84) and Cristiano Ronaldo (117).

2. Matty Cash

Matthew Stuart Cash was born on 7 August 1997. He is a Polish-English professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Premier League club Aston Villa. Born in England, he represents the Poland national team.

Cash started his career at Wycombe Wanderers and later the FAB Academy before he signed his first professional contract with Nottingham Forest and established himself as a regular at right-back. He signed for Aston Villa in September 2020.

Although Cash was born in England, his mother is Polish. In October 2021 he received his Polish passport, qualifying him to play for the Poland national team. He made his debut the following month.

3. Wojciech Szczęsny

Wojciech Tomasz Szczęsny was born on 18 April 1990. He is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Serie A club Juventus and the Poland national team. After starting his club career at Legia Warsaw, Szczęsny signed for Arsenal in January 2006, where he made his professional debut in 2009.

At the international level, Szczęsny has earned over 60 caps for Poland since his debut in 2009 and was included in the nation’s squad as it co-hosted UEFA Euro 2012, also later taking part in Euro 2016, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2020.

4. Nicola Zalewski

Nicola Zalewski was born on 23 January 2002. He is a professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Serie A club Roma. Born and raised in Italy to Polish parents, he plays for the Poland national team at the international level.

Zalewski, while born in Italy, doesn’t hold Italian citizenship. He was first selected by the youth selections of the Poland national team after being discovered by Zbigniew Boniek, head of the Polish Football Association and former Roma player.

He made his debut for the senior team on the 5 September 2021, in the World Cup Qualifier against San Marino where he came on in the 66th minute and assisted Adam Buksa in the 94th minute making it 7–1 for Poland.

5.Grzegorz Krychowiak

Grzegorz Krychowiak was born on 29 January 1990. He is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Saudi Arabian club Al-Shabab, on loan from Krasnodar and the Poland national team.

He began his senior career in France with Bordeaux. Later played for Reims, before joining Sevilla for €3.5 million in 2014, winning the UEFA Europa League in both of his two seasons at the club.

Krychowiak has earned over 90 caps for Poland since his international debut in 2008 and represented the nation at UEFA Euro 2016, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2020.

6. Piotr Zieliński

Piotr Sebastian Zieliński was born on 20 May 1994. e is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Serie A club Napoli and the Poland national team. During his senior career, he has also played for Udinese and Empoli.

Zieliński was selected to represent Poland at UEFA Euro 2016 in France, as well as the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and the pan-European UEFA Euro 2020. He has two brothers who are also professional footballers – Paweł and Tomasz Zieliński.

7. Karol Świderski

Karol Świderski was born on 23 January 1997. He is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Major League Soccer club Charlotte FC and the Poland national team.

On 15 March 2021, Świderski was called up for the first time to the national team to play in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification. He made his debut in the match against Andorra, being substituted on for Robert Lewandowski in the 63rd minute. He was later included in the Polish squad for the UEFA Euro 2020.

8. Kamil Glik

Kamil Jacek Glik was born on 3 February 1988. He is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a center-back for Serie B club Benevento and the Poland national team.

The previous clubs Glik played for include Piast Gliwice from 2008 to 2010, Palermo from 2010 to 2011, Torino from 2011 to 2016, and Monaco from 2017 to 2020, the latter two of which he was appointed captain of the team. He represented Poland at UEFA Euro 2016, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2020.

9. Jakub Kiwior

Jakub Piotr Kiwior was born on 15 February 2000. He is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Spezia and the Poland national team. Kiwior made his Fortuna Liga debut for Železiarne Podbrezová against Nitra on 16 February 2019. Kiwior played the entirety of the 3–1 victory at pod Zoborom.

In August 2019, Kiwior’s transfer to MŠK Žilina was announced. He made his debut in the yellow jersey on 10 August 2019 during an away fixture against Ružomberok. Kiwior made his debut as a starter for Poland against the Netherlands in a 2022–23 UEFA Nations League 2–2 away draw on 11 June 2022.

10. Łukasz Fabiański

Łukasz Marek Fabiański was born on 18 April 1985. He is a Polish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club West Ham United. He also played for the Poland national team, until his retirement in 2021.

Having begun his career at Legia Warsaw, Fabiański joined Arsenal for £2.1 million in 2007, and was mainly used as back-up, but played as the club won the 2014 FA Cup Final. On the expiration of his contract in 2014, he joined Swansea City and played 150 total matches in four years. He then signed for West Ham for £7 million.

As a full international for Poland since 2006, Fabiański represented his country on 57 occasions. He was included in the squads for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, UEFA Euro 2008, Euro 2016, the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and Euro 2020.
