Will Jenna Ortega lose her role on Wednesday after being branded “entitled” and “beyond toxic” by a Hollywood writer and producer?
The eight-episode spin-off series of the Addams Family franchise Wednesday was hailed by the public after it premiered on November 2022. The series featured Jenna Ortega as well as Christina Ricci who played the very first ever Addams’s Family show. The series is about mystery and adventure with a bit of dark humour.
Jenna Ortega plays the role of the teenager named Wednesday who is a curious, sarcastic and smart with a gothic style. The actress is only 20 years old she’s and has shown much growth in the industry. The Tim Burton’s Wednesday series broke the Stanger Things record as the most viewed series in a week. It follows that fans were curious about season two. The show was cleared for a new season but the same was not provided with a specific date.
The actress has recently been on the lime light once again after she was branded as entitled. Following her comments on a podcast, The Armchair Expert, a critical of Wednesday’s writers, actress Jenna Ortega has been branded “entitled” and “beyond toxic” by a Hollywood writer and producer. In his opinion, Ortega’s remarks were quite unprofessional. According to Steven DeKnight, who’s writing credits include Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the Daredevil, and the Starz series Spartacus what she said was uncalled for.
The 20-year-old lead actress of the The Addams Family spinoff expressed her dissatisfaction with the creators’ efforts and she took the liberty to make changes to the few lines that were not satisfactory to her. Nothing about Wednesday, according to Ortega, “made sense to her,” and she had to intervene to change the narrative’s “arc.”
Everything Jenna Ortega put in the series in my opinion is the only reason why people loved it. I mean many of the line in the series were a bit cringey to be honest. The fact that she might be an Executive producer of the show means that she can make many changes to the show. On an episode that was aired on March 6 the actress commented, “I don’t think I’ve ever had to put my foot down more on a set in a way that I had to on “Wednesday.”
DeKnight criticized Ortega for speaking out about script meetings, calling it “public s***” on the authors and producers. Jenna simply has a much more better grasp on who Wednesday is as a character in the series.
He further wrote that, “I adore interacting with actors about their lines/stories but because of the nature of the beast, viewers of TV don’t always understand where the tale is heading or why certain lines are necessary for the overall plot to make sense.”
He added that, “She’s young, so perhaps she doesn’t understand (but should). She should contemplate how she would feel if the producers of the show made an She ought to consider how it would make her feel if the show’s producers discussed how difficult she was and her refusal to perform the material in an interview.” He made Jenna sound beyond entitled and nasty. “Life is too short to deal with people like these in the industry, even though I admire her work,” he continued.
If you try to understand where the producer is coming from, I think he wants her to be more considerate on how she expresses herself. To him, he felt she would not feel the same if the producers made such comments about her performance. Fans and supporters of Jenna quickly came to her defence without hesitation. They made very blunt comments like how it was no different from sh***ing on Jenna Ortega.
DeKnight responded to the tweet quickly coming to his defence by saying, “My comments were about violating the trust that we all have on set and during the production process that our creative differences will stay in the family.” This honestly doesn’t make sense. He was just scared after the massive came for his neck for talking down on such a talented actress. When she put her foot down, she improved the show and made the show more likeable. Nothing she said on that podcast warrant for his explosive reaction. His ego was just harmed by what Jenna had to say.
“It was never about her legitimate creative concerns or her great performance, she’s a fantastic talent, I can’t stress it enough,” he continued. I’d really hate it when we live in a world where actors or actresses are backed to a corner and their voice is taken away by producers and writers just because they are direct and firm. They frame her as being toxic yet they are the ones to interact with the characters and try to understand the character’s personality.
