Carter James Camper, an American forward who competes for the Leksands IF of the Swedish Hockey League, was born on July 6, 1988. (SHL). Camper joined the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League in 2010 after playing four seasons in the NCAA (NHL).

He has spent most of his professional career in the American Hockey League since turning pro (AHL). Camper joined the NHL Ottawa Senators as a free agent in July 2014 after being dealt to the Columbus Blue Jackets in February 2014. He joined the Washington Capitals in July 2015 after being unsigned.

In the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, Camper played four seasons of Division I NCAA hockey for the Miami Red Hawks. Upon completion, he held the American record for most points scored in a career.

He finished fourth in points and third in assists during the 2010–11 US season. He amassed 69 goals and 114 assists for 183 points in 156 games during his college career. He tied for second place in career assists and goals, and he finished second all-time at the school in points.

2. Camper was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Boston Bruins

Camper was signed by the Boston Bruins as an undrafted free agent on April 7, 2011, just after receiving his diploma.  He was then right away assigned to the Providence Bruins, the Bruins’ top AHL affiliate, where he made his professional debut the next night in a 5-4 victory over the Portland Pirates. 

After being called up from Providence on February 20, 2012, Camper made his NHL debut with the Bruins on February 22 against the St. Louis Blues. He skated for a total of 6:21. In a 5-3 victory for Boston on February 25, 2012, Camper scored his first goal in the NHL against Alex Auld of the Ottawa Senators. Adam McQuaid, a defender for the Bruins, provided assistance. Additionally, this was his first NHL point. After the Bruins made two trades to acquire three players on February 27, 2012, Camper and two other players were sent back down to Providence.

Camper joined the Springfield Falcons after being acquired by the Bruins in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets on February 7, 2014, for Blake Parlett. On July 2, 2014, Camper signed a one-year two-way contract with the Ottawa Senators, leaving the Blue Jackets organisation as free agency.  Camper joined the Washington Capitals on July 1, 2015, under a two-way, one-year deal.

Camper, a free agent for the second straight year, agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils on July 1, 2016. With the Albany Devils, the AHL’s affiliate team where he played the whole 2016–17 season, he scored 35 points (29 assists) in 47 games.

4. Camper had a deal with the New Jersey Devils

On July 1, 2016, Camper, a free agent for a second straight year, agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils.  With his AHL affiliate, the Albany Devils, for the entire 2016–17 campaign, he accrued 35 points (29 assists) in 47 games.

5. Camper signed a two-year AHL contract with his hometown team Cleveland Monsters

At the end of his contract with the Devils, Camper became a free agent. On July 21, 2017, he agreed to a two-year AHL deal with his hometown team, the Cleveland Monsters. On February 26, 2018, Camper was moved to the Tucson Roadrunners as part of an NHL deal between parent affiliates the Columbus Blue Jackets and Arizona Coyotes.

Camper had been leading the Monsters in scoring in the 2017–18 season with 29 assists and 42 points in 53 games. Camper became an immediate success with the Roadrunners, averaging more than a point per contest to finish the season.

6. Grand Rapids Griffins acquired Camper from the Roadrunners in a trade

The Grand Rapids Griffins got Camper from the Roadrunners on June 25, 2018, in exchange for future consideration. Camper made the decision to continue his journeyman AHL career on July 2, 2019, when he agreed to a one-year contract with the Utica Comets, a Vancouver Canucks affiliate.

Camper’s nine-year professional career in the AHL came to an end on August 7, 2020, when he signed a two-year free agent contract with the Swedish team Leksands IF of the SHL.

7. His brothers were also quite sporty

 His older brother Ben played college hockey at Colgate University before turning pro in 2008-09 with the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League, and his younger brother Jay played junior hockey for the Alpena (Mich.)

Ice Diggers of the North American Hockey League, the Lincoln Stars, and Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League before joining the University of New Hampshire. The Camper boys are a part of a select group of Northeast Ohio families with many collegiate and professional hockey players.
