Top 10 Things to Know About Migos
Migos is an American hip-hop group founded in 2008 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The group was founded by Southern rappers Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset. Coach K, who was the former manager of Gucci Mane and Jeezy, is in charge of them.
Quavo’s mother, Edna Marshall, raised the three children together in the suburbs of Lawrenceville, Georgia. They were raised listening to artists such as Outkast, Gucci Mane, Hot Boys, Lil Wayne, and Master P.
On August 25, 2011, the group released their first full-length project, a mixtape titled Juug Season. On June 1, 2012, they released the mixtape No Label. Tucker Toenjes and Mitchell Thomas assisted.
However, here are some of the top 10 things you should know about the Migos if you are a fan of hip-hop or the group. They include the following;
1. Takeoff, a member of the Migos, was tragically shot and killed in November 2022, at the age of 28

The rapper, real name Kirshnik Khari Ball, was assassinated in Houston in the early morning hours of November 1, 2022. Takeoff was shot around 2:30 a.m. at a bowling alley, according to TMZ. He was with Quavo at the time of his death, who was unharmed in the shooting. Two other people on the premises were shot and taken to the hospital, according to Houston Police.
2. They originally called themselves the Polo Club
The group was known as Polo Club until 2010 when it changed its name to Migos. The name ‘Migos’ is a play on the phrase ‘The Three Amigos.’Quavo, Takeoff, and Offset formed Migos in 2008. However, the three members are related and grew up together; Takeoff’s uncle is Quavo, and Offset is Quavo’s cousin. They grew up together in suburban Atlanta, about 30 minutes northeast of Downtown in Gwinnett County.
3. Migos have four studio albums, one EP, and twelve mixtapes to their credit
Migos released their first mixtape, ‘Jugg Season,’ for free in 2011. After a decade, the trio would go on to have two number-one albums ‘Culture’ and ‘Culture II,’ with ‘Culture III reaching number two. Not only do they have twelve mixtapes but also 47 singles (including twenty-four as a featured artist). Migos released also their debut studio album, Yung Rich Nation, on July 31, 2015, through Quality Control Music and 300 Entertainment.
4. The group was rumored to have broken
The group was said to have split up in 2022 after Quavo’s ex-girlfriend Saweetie allegedly slept with Offset. Quavo alluded to the split in the song “Messy” as well as in an interview in which he implied Offset’s lack of loyalty.
5. The group had many run-ins with the law
Offset was imprisoned in Georgia’s DeKalb County Jail in 2013 for violating his probation for felony burglary and theft convictions. While Migos was involved in a feud with Chief Keef in 2014. Chief Keef’s associates robbed Quavo. Offset was also arrested in Atlanta on March 17, 2016, for driving with a suspended license but was released the next day without charges. Ever since he claimed that his license was never suspended and that he was arrested without probable cause.
The Washington Avenue Armory in Albany, New York, sued the group in March 2018 for allegedly inciting a riot at the venue in 2015, during which six people were stabbed. A concertgoer who suffered facial injuries also filed a lawsuit against the band and the venue.
6. One-upmanship is the one thing above everything else that they stand for
If the Migos are known for anything, it’s one-upmanship. This is illustrated in their song Motorsport. Their chains, cars, and flows are all more recent than yours. As a result, a guest verse from 2017’s greatest hip-hop icon, Cardi B, would never suffice as the lead single from their latest album, Culture II. Here we find her possibly beefing with her cultural godmother and rumored nemesis, Nicki Minaj, on the same track. Migos are zeitgeist masters who are always ‘doing it for the culture.’
7. They rose to prominence after the release of their single “Versace”
Migos rose to prominence following the release of their single “Versace” in 2013. Drake remixed the song, which peaked at number 99 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 31 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Quavo’s first lead single as a solo artist was “Champions,” which featured several other artists. The song charted at 71 on the Billboard Hot 100.
8. Kanye West attempted to sign them under his label, G.O.O.D Music, in 2016, but the deal fell through
Kanye West announced on September 7, 2016, that he had signed Migos to a management deal with his GOOD Music imprint, but the group stated in January 2017 that they are not affiliated with West’s label. During an interview, Quavo responded that there were talks about a management deal, but nothing was ever finalized.
9. In 2013, Versace was the trio’s first major radio hit
On June 15, 2013, the group performed at the Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash. The group was featured in XXL’s “Show & Prove” section in October 2013. “Versace” was ranked third on XXL’s “The 25 Best Songs of 2013,” number four on Complex’s “The 50 Best Songs of 2013,” number five on SPIN’s “50 Best Songs of 2013,” number 38 on Pitchfork’s “The Top 100 Tracks of 2013,” and number 69 on Rolling Stone’s “The 100 Best Songs of 2013.” SPIN named Y.R.N. (Young Rich Niggas) the 27th-best album of 2013 and the sixth-best hip-hop album of 2013.
10. They travel with stacks of money everywhere
Migos isn’t a fan of bank accounts. That may be an exaggeration, but one thing is certain: they enjoy being near their money. Stacks of cash, an extra T-shirt for Quavo, who describes himself as a messy eater, Jesus piece chains, two phones, and MC Hammer stunner sunglasses can be found in their leather backpacks.
