Top 10 Remarkable Facts about Sisqó

Mark Althavan Andrews who was known professionally as Sisqó (stylized as SisQó) was born in 1978. He has been an American singer, songwriter, record producer, dancer, and actor. Sisqo is most prominently known for “Thong Song”, his membership in Dru Hill, and has also released solo material. Sisqo’s successful debut solo album, Unleash the Dragon (1999), included the hit singles “Thong Song” and “Incomplete”.

Here are the Top 10 Remarkable Facts about Sisqó

1. He is a Native of Baltimore, Maryland

Mark Althavan Andrews, popularly known as Sisq0, was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 9, 1978. He lived at 908 Newington Avenue in Reservoir Hill, not far from Druid Hill Park. Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School awarded Andrews a certificate in 1994. The nickname “Sisqo” was given to Andrews by his elementary school classmates in Baltimore because they thought his light curly hair gave him a Latino appearance.

2. Sisqo and his Teenage buddies were signed by Island records to the Band Dru Hill in 1996

Andrews worked at The Fudgery at Harborplace in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor as a youngster alongside Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, James “Woody” Green, and Larry “Jazz” Anthony. Under the name Dru Hill, the group would sign with Island Records.

3. Sisqo’s distinguishing visual elements, Theatrical outfits, and Hairdos

Sisqo’s flamboyant stage clothing, which was frequently more flashy than that of his bandmates, is one of its defining visual characteristics. Throughout his musical career, both with and without Dru Hill, Sisqó has worn blonde cornrows, a neon-red dyed Caesar, a blonde Mohawk, and platinum (colored with silver spray paint) Caesar haircuts.

4. He is a family man and loves children

In a Minneapolis neighborhood called Maple Grove, Minnesota, Sisqo lives with his wife, Elizabeth Pham, and their two children. “Sisqo’s Perfect Christmas” is the name of the children’s book he published. Sisqo has declared that he is a family man, which makes sense given that he seems to be a dedicated father.

5. Sisqo has performed supporting roles in a few movies

The group’s planned reunification in 2000 was hampered by the internal dispute in Dru Hill. Usually, Sisqó’s second solo LP recording time conflicts are to blame for this. During this time, Sisqo grew, becoming the host of the MTV dance competition program Sisqó’s Shakedown and breaking into the movie business, appearing in supporting roles in the movies Get Over It (2001), Snow Dogs (2002), Pieces of April (2003), and Mo in Surf School (2006). Sisqo also played minor roles in these films as Dennis Wallace, Dr. Rupert Brooks, Latrell, and Latrell, respectively. He also had a vampire appearance in Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Season 6 Episode 1).

Sisqo participated in the 2008 and 2010 seasons of the television series “Gone Country” and “Celebrity Big Brother 2010.”

6. Sisqo released Four Studio Albums with Dru Hill

The Dru Hill Album came first. Dru Hill, the debut studio album of the American boy band Dru Hill, was made available on November 19, 1996, by Island Records. The album had four hits, including the singles “Tell Me,” “In My Bed,” “Never Make A Promise,” and “5 Steps.”

On October 27, 1998, Island Records released Enter the Dru, the second studio album by American R&B group Dru Hill. The Bruce Lee film Enter the Dragon is mentioned in the album’s title. This is the first album for which the band gained executive producer credit because all four members participated in the composition and production of some of the songs.

Dru World Order, the third studio album from the American R&B group Dru Hill, was made available in the latter half of 2002 via the Def Soul division of Def Jam Recordings. The Dru Hill founding lineup of Sisqó, Jazz, Nokio, and Woody became a quintet with the release of this album with the addition of fifth member Scola (Rufus Waller).

On July 27, 2010, Kedar Entertainment Group released InDRUpendence Day, the fourth studio album from the Dru Hills group. The album’s scheduled June 8, 2010, release date was postponed.

7. Sisqo Released Three solo Albums

Sisqo’s solo career began in 1999 after one of the group’s members, Woody, left Dru Hill to pursue it alone. Later, the other band members decided to follow Woody’s lead and record their own solo records.

The day after Thanksgiving in 1999, Def Soul released his debut solo studio album, Unleash the Dragon. There are several well-known songs on the album, including “Got to Get It,” “Incomplete,” and “Thong Song.” Previously, Sisqo was Dru Hill’s lead vocalist. Favorite Soul/R&B Album and Favorite Soul/R&B Male Artist nominations for the American Music Awards were also made possible by the album for Sisqó.

On June 19, 2001, Def Soul Records issued Return of Dragon, Sisqó’s second solo studio album. The lead singles from the album, “Can I Live” and “Dance for Me,” were commercial disappointments in comparison to his debut album, Unleash the Dragon (1999). After more than a million copies of Return of Dragon were sold, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it as platinum.

Last Dragon, Sisqó’s third studio album by himself, was released. The album was released on February 10, 2015, through Dragon Music and Massenburg Media. He also released many singles and mixtapes in 2001.

8. He was Nominated and won the following Billboard Music Award in 2000

His work was also nominated for numerous honors, including the Teen Choice Award (2000), the MTV Video Music Awards (2000), the MTV Europe Music Awards (2000), the MOBO Awards (2000 and 2001), the Grammy Awards (2001), the Soul Train Music Awards (2001), and the America Music Awards (2001).

9. His vocal technique and flashy appearance have drawn criticism.

Sisqo’s vocal style is strikingly similar to that of R&B singer Jodeci’s K-Ci Hailey. As a result, despite Sisqo’s repeated claims that K-Ci is his primary inspiration, many people—including K-Ci—have accused him of completely ripping off K-singing Ci’s style.

Sisqo has long been the target of persistent and widespread speculations that, due to his distinctive appearance, he might be homosexual or bisexual, which he has firmly denied.

10. He published a book for kids

2018’s “SisQo’s Perfect Christmas” was co-written with Tilesha Brown, who handles media requests for Dru Hill and Sisqó. It follows the singer’s daughter QoQo and her family as they go on an antics-filled cross-country journey to see her father in time for the holiday. This year, the authors published a new edition that included a new chapter that was related to the anniversary of “Unleash the Dragon,” according to Brown. Although it may be too late for Christmas, it’s never too late for a wacky holiday tale, just like Dru Hill’s “Christmas in Baltimore” EP.
