1. It is the oldest Island in Hawaii

Kauai is the second-oldest island in Hawaii, after the Ni’ihau. It has been in existence for approximately 5.1 million years.  It was formed when the Pacific Plate passed over a “hotspot” whereby the magma rose upwards until it erupted onto the ocean floor. Oahu is the third oldest after Kauai island, it is about 2.2 to 3.4 million years old.

2. It is the four-largest island

Kauai is also called the Garden Isle. It is the fourth-largest island on the Hawaiian Island. The Island is filled with jagged cliff faces, steep mountains, and verdant valleys. The tropical rain forest toke over the island over the centuries, and now the waterfalls cut into the steep slopes. A few of the remote areas on the island can only be accessed by sea or air. It is also ranked as the fourth most visited island by tourists.

Kauai Island has been ranked in the top ten wettest places on earth. According to the ranking list, Kauai has been ranked 8th from 1st as the wettest spot. This may be caused by the fact that Kauai Island has been receiving frequent and substantial nurturing rains. Hence the island is nicknamed  ‘Garden Island.

Mountain Waialeale, situated near the island’s center is of the wettest spots on earth. Well, it’s a more than 5000-foot tall mountain that is always enshrouded in clouds and receives a tremendous amount of rainfall each year. Some of the factors that lead to this are that the mountainous edges are steep, and the volcanic shield catches a lot of condensation from trade winds that pass by, the mountain has a round shape that leaves its peak exposed to rain and wind.

7. You can bird watch

One of the most iconic spots on the island is the Kilauea Lighthouse. It gives an incredible experience for any tourist who is interested in birdwatching. Considering that nearby there is a wildlife refuge with numerous bird species.

Some of the bird species that you are likely to see are Hawaiian geese, shearwaters, and giant albatrosses. You can also spot monk seals by the shore if you are lucky enough.

Kauai Island is considered an unconquered

When it comes to the island’s history it is said that it is unique in that department. The island has kept herself charmed, mysterious, and unconquered in so many ways.

The island was the last island that was under the control of warrior King Kamehameha, he is said to be powerful in Hawaii. Kauai island has been referred to as the “unconquered ” island after two attempts of Kamehameha to invade the island failed. After the power was relinquished to him by ruler Kaumuali in 1810
