Tim Allen has always gone to infinity and beyond with everything he’s ever done. He has had an impressive career, with roles in Toy Story, The Santa Clause, and Home Improvement. And yet, there is so much we don’t know about the actor. He has featured in both TV and films.

 Always big in whatever character he has been given; his roles have ranged from iconic fathers in Home Improvement and Last Man Standing to beloved childhood character Buzz Lightyear in the Toy Story movies. Allen made his career as a comedian for the family to enjoy, hooking his wagon with Disney for many of his feature films.

However, some critics often say that Allen’s preference for sillier humor has sometimes backfired, leading to him becoming a punch line for such films as Christmas with the Kranks, The Shaggy Dog, and Zoom.

1. His Position In The Family Shaped The Person That He Has Become

Allen was born in Denver, Colorado on June 13, 1953. Growing up under the care of his, Martha, a community-service worker, and his father, Gerald, an insurance salesman shaped him as a person.  He has two older brothers, two younger brothers, and a younger sister. Later while being interviewed by Parade, he stated that being a middle child helped him learn “how to manipulate the system. “I’d see what my older two brothers would screw up, and I learned how to circumvent that.” But that didn’t stop him from getting into trouble. “Of all the kids, I was the most troublesome. I sort of put [my mother] through hell,” he said. “I’ve had a lot of trouble in my life.”

2. He Was Destined For Theater From An Early Age

Like most successful actors, he was destined for theatre from an early age. While attending Seaholm High School in Birmingham, where he was in theater and music classes, he fell in love with classical piano. To sharpen his skills, Allen then attended Central Michigan University before transferring to Western Michigan University in 1974. While at Western Michigan, he had an opportunity to work at the student radio station WIDR which played a big role in his career path. In 1976 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in communications, specializing in radio and television production, with a split minor in philosophy and design.

3. He Started His Career As A Comedian

 Allen started his career as a comedian in 1975 in a very funny way. Initially, he didn’t believe that he could make it but his friends urged him on. On his debut and a dare from one of his friends, he participated in a comedy night at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle in Royal Oak, a suburb of Detroit. As he continued in Detroit, he began to get recognition appearing in local television commercials and appearing on cable comedy shows such as Gary Thison’s Some Semblance of Sanity.

4. He Has Successfully Produced And Acted In Several Movies And Television Shows

Allen rose to fame in acting with the ABC sitcom Home Improvement (1991–1999) produced for ABC by Wind Dancer Productions, a company he co-founded with producer Carmen Finestra. He had the honors of being the main character Tim “The Tool-Man” Taylor. In November 1994, he again simultaneously starred in the highest-grossing film (Walt Disney Pictures’ The Santa Clause). This film managed to top The New York Times bestseller list with his book Don’t Stand Too Close to a Naked Man. He also appeared in the top-rated television series (Home Improvement) within one week. He added the Home Improvement which ran until 1999, for which he was paid US$1.25 million per episode.

5. He Was Once Convicted For Being Drunk

He was once arrested in Birmingham, Michigan in 1997 after he was found to have 0.15 blood alcohol content. Although he managed to avoid prison, He still had to serve one-year probation. He was also required to enter a rehabilitation clinic for alcohol abuse. Eventually he was able to report that he has been able to stay sober in the 20 years since that alcohol-related arrest. 6. He Had One Of His Shows Cancelled

In an unfortunate incident in May 2017, Allen’s show Last Man Standing was canceled abruptly by ABC without a final episode. This resulted in an outcry amongst the show’s fans, some of whom accused the network of canceling the show because it promoted conservative and libertarian values which mirrored Allen’s real-life political views. However, it was later clarified that the official reason being business-related. Luckily as a reprieve for the fans, the Last Man Standing was picked up by Fox in May 2018.

7. Allen Is A Devoted Car Enthusiast

Allen considers himself a devoted car enthusiast with a massive collection of different models. In a 2013 in an interview with GQ, Allen admitted that he had an “eclectic car collection” which included “more cars than necessary.”  This is an obsession that cannot be explained easily. To be honest, anything more than one or two cars is probably more than necessary for anyone!

8. He Considers Himself A Political Anarchist

He states, “Politically I’m kind of an anarchist if you see my stand-up. I’m for responsible government that actually does what we pay them to do. I’ve worked different jobs and I’ve had a colorful past and I pay a lot in taxes,” he said to Entertainment Weekly.

He went on to add, “I wish we got more for our money. Whatever political party is for more responsible use of our money — that’s all I meant.”

9. He is Gifted With A Big Voice

Aside from providing the voice for Buzz Light-year, Allen has also used his vocal skills to be the official voice for both the Chevrolet Cruze in 2010 and Campbell Soup’s “It’s Amazing What Soup Can Do” campaign. He is always greatful for this.

10. He Prefers Living A Healthy Lifestyle

Unusual for many people of his class, but he’s always working out, eating healthy, and even meditating. This is a motivation to other budding stars who adore him and his staunch followers who can learn a lesson or two from him.
