Raven-Symoné Christina Pearman-Maday was born on 10 December 1985. She is also known mononymously as Raven. Raven, therefore, is an American actress, singer, and songwriter.
She has received several accolades, including five NAACP Image Awards, two Kids’ Choice Awards, three Young Artist Awards, and three Daytime Emmy Award nominations.
In 2012, she was included on VH1’s list of “100 Greatest Child Stars of All Time”. In 2001, she reprised the role of Charisse Dolittle in the sequel of Eddie Murphy’s comedy Dr Dolittle 2. In the article are the top ten facts about Raven-Symoné.
1. Raven-Symoné began her career as a child actress
She appeared as Olivia Kendall on The Cosby Show from 1998 to 1992. The Cosby Show is an American television sitcom co-created by and starring Bill Cosby, which aired Thursday nights for eight seasons on NBC between September 20, 1984, and April 30, 1992. The show focuses on an upper-middle-class African-American family living in Brooklyn, New York.
She also was featured as Nicole Lee on Hangin’ with Mr Cooper which spanned from 1993 to 1997. Hangin’ with Mr Cooper is an American television sitcom that originally aired on ABC from September 22, 1992, to August 30, 1997, starring Mark Curry and Holly Robinson.
The show took place in Curry’s hometown of Oakland, California.Both of the television shows which her several awards and nominations.
2. Raven-Symoné released her debut studio album at the age of seven
Raven signed to MCA Records at the age of 5, making her the youngest artist ever signed to a label but didn’t release the album until she was 7 years old which was in 1993. The album is known as “Here’s to New Dreams “. It has sold 73,000 copies to date.
She was signed to MCA Records by Wendy Credle and received vocal training lessons from collaborator Missy Elliott, who was then credited as Melissa Elliott.
3. She started working as an infant
As an infant according to the human development stage which is zero to one year. she worked as an infant for Atlanta’s Young Faces Inc. modelling agency and was featured in local print advertisements.
At the age of two, she worked with Ford Models in New York City and appeared in ads for Ritz crackers, Jell-O, Fisher-Price, and Cool Whip. At age three, her family moved to Ossining, New York where she attended Park School.
4. She advocated for same-sex marriage
In August 2013, Raven-Symoné commented on the legalization of same-sex marriage, stating that she was excited to hear that that day more states legalized gay marriage.
In an October 2014 interview with Oprah Winfrey, she explained her rejection of labelling herself and of identifying as either African-American or gay. She specified that she was an “American” and a “human who loves humans.”
5. Raven was once dating AzMarie Livingston
The dating spanned three years from 2012 to 2015. AzMarie Livingston born Ashley Marie is an American fashion model, actress, singer and DJ. Livingston was cast to play the role of Chicken on the Fox show Empire.
She rose to fame after appearing on America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion in 2012. She was noted for her tattoos and androgynous look. Despite her initial strength in the competition, including two first callouts, Livingston was eliminated in the sixth episode.
6. Raven married Miranda Marray in 2020
Raven made it official while they were quarantining at the home that they were dating. Raven made it official together with her then-to-be wife Miranda via zoom while perched on the same chair.
Raven found a ring online and drove Miranda to a mountain in Malibu, a special place where she has often gone to look onto the water and feel a sense of possibility. She then proposed amid the fog.
The two were married on June 16 2020 in the front garden of famed choreographer and Grey’s Anatomy star Debbie Allen’s home in L.A. The ceremony lasted an hour. The couple has been married since.
7. Raven is non-binary
Non-binary or genderqueer is an umbrella term for gender identities that are not solely male or female i.e. identities that are outside the gender binary. Non-binary identities fall under the transgender umbrella since non-binary people typically identify with a gender that is different from their assigned sex.
Actress Raven-Symone eschews labels like gay and African-American. The former “Cosby Show” star said she’s just a “human who loves humans”. However, Raven-Symoné has opened up about how months of lockdown forced her to come to terms with her sexuality and gender identity in a new way.
8. Raven contributed vocals to many soundtracks
The soundtracks were from her Disney projects. The soundtracks include; The Cheetah Girls (2003), That’s So Raven (2004), That’s So Raven Too! (2006), and The Cheetah Girls 2 (2006). Several of the soundtracks were certified platinum and gold.
9. Raven’s zodiac sign is Sagittarius
