Top 10 Facts about Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park

The Martin Luther King National Park is regarded as an important historic site to United States of America. The site was first established on the 8^th of January 1980 to commensurate the life, death and achievements made by Martin Luther King who was the leader of the American Civil Rights Movement.

The current location of the Historic site is Atlanta, Georgia. The building was first selected to be a National park after the signing of the Bipartisan Bill by Donald Trump. The site was made in celebration of Martin Luther`s movement against segregation in the states.

The buildings were dedicated to pay tribute to the life and work of Martin Luther King who one of America’s greatest civil rights leaders and his ultimate sacrifice. He was born and grew up in the time of segregation in the state. This steered him to the creation of a modern civil rights movement that was aimed to create equality through all races.

1.The park has been listed as a top destination for both national and international tourists

The site has been a major attraction site for both International and national tourists. It celebrates the birthplace of one of the greatest Civil Rights leader among other activists during his time. Within the said park is Martin Luther King`s home, the Ebenezor Baptist Church and his grave site.

The Ebenezer Church is one that Martin Luther King was co-pastor until his assassination in the year 1968.  In addition, the Park also holds a museum that chronicle the American Civil Rights Movements and the path followed by Martin Luther King Jr. It is often a destination site for the celebration of the Civil rights Activists` movement.

2.The freedom Hall has numerous historic exhibits displayed

The Freedom Hall which is located on the opposite side of the reflecting pool from Ebenezer Baptist Church hold a number of exhibitions that are attributed to several human rights activists. It features exhibits about Dr. Martin Luther king and his wife, Mahatma Gandhi and American activist Rosa Parks.

The hall has hosted several events and programs associated with civil rights and social justice. It contains a Grand Foyer, large auditorium, bookstore and resource center, and various works of art from across the globe.

3.In 2004, The International Civil Rights Walk of Fame was created in honor of civil rights activists

In 2004, the International Civil Rights Walk of Fame was created in honor of Civil Rights Movement that led to the liberation of several marginalized communities. The walk includes footsteps, marked in granite and bronze that gives homage of the brave warriors.

The civil Activist, Xernona Clayton, depicts the walk of fame as a long lasting memory for the immense contribution made by activists that will see equal rights for all. He further termed it as a historic site that would serve as a symbol of bride to the future generation.

The wall of fame depicts the straggling efforts made by civil rights activists for the drive of equality. Martin Luther King who was also a civil Rights Activist is also celebrated from the steps.

4.The Park offers verse historic sites

The historic site offers a variety of options from here Martin Luther King was born, where he lived, where he worshiped and his final resting place. The site contains a dozen of buildings that are spread over 38 acres.

Some of the buildings were where he grew up during his early and adult years. The Ebenezer Church that also forms part of the National Park is here he was where he worshiped and was co-pastor. The verse history in the park was gazette for the purpose of giving tribute to the great civil rights movement made centuries ago.

5.Dr. King鈥檚 final tomb is located in the Park

The national park does not only contain the place he lived and worshiped but also his final resting place. His Tomb is located across Auburn Avenue from the National Park Service Visitor Center. After the dedication of the park to Martin Luther, his remains were relocated to the park.

These arrangements were made after he was assassinated on the 4^th of April, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther`s wife chose this location for her husband鈥檚 tomb between his birth home and his spiritual home, Ebenezer Baptist Church. The place draws crowds on the anniversary of his death.

6.The neighborhood where Martin Luther lived is open for exploring

The National park is inclusive of his home and his neighborhood where he spent most of his life in. Dr. King birth place was in Atlanta neighborhood along Auburn Avenue. The area is now locally referred to as 鈥淪weet Auburn,鈥� which forged strong community bonds to the African American community.

It is evident from the history of his work that his Civil Rights movements steered many conversations on matters of equality to all races. His work and effort strengthened the move against segregation of African Americans.

Visitors can now step into that era and imagine themselves living in those tumultuous times.

7.A statue has been erected in honoring one of Dr. King鈥檚 inspirations, Mohandas K. Gandhi

Martin Luther King Jr. drew inspirations from other civil rights activists like the said, Mohandas K. Gandhi. Mohandas K. Gandhi was an important spiritual and political leader in the Indian Independence Movement. He actively took part in throwing off chains of colonial oppression.

Martin Luther King gained the much needed tactics and influence from him. A statue was erected in the National Park in giving tribute to Mohandas K. Gandhi, who had majorly influence all Kings Works. 

8.Other famous civil rights figures are celebrated here

The National park not only gives tribute to Martin Luther king, but also to other dozens of people who have dedicated their lives to equality, justice and nonviolence. The Freedom Hall which is located on the opposite Ebenezer Baptist Church hold a number of exhibitions that are attributed to several human rights activists that include Dr. Martin Luther king and his wife, Mahatma Gandhi and American activist Rosa Parks.

The International Civil Rights Walk of Fame recognizes heroes throughout history.  The walk includes footsteps, marked in granite and bronze that is symbolic to the steps taken by Civil Rights activist in their quest to stop segregation.

9.The initial Headquarters of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference was once in the park

The initial headquarters of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) was in the park. The SCLC is a civil rights organization founded in the year 1957. Its formation was aimed at better coordination of civil rights protection across the state.

Martin Luther King, Jr., Bayard Ralph Abernathy, Fred Shuttles worth and others were the formal founders of the SCLC in 1957. The movement included boycotts, marches and other form on non-violent protest in the black community.

10.Visitors are offered a brief orientation of the site at the National Park Service Visitors Center

A brief orientation is offered to visitors of the site at the Visitors center. Visitors are offers some brief history in the site. Just at the lobby of the center is the 鈥榗hildren of courage鈥� exhibit that is geared towards younger visitors of the site. The exhibits seek to challenge the young generation in matters concerning civil rights protection and movements. 

Martin Luther`s effort on civil rights movement in the U.S is evidently presented in the park. He is regarded as one of the top most influential people in the American History. The park was officially made a historic site to commensurate the life lived by Martin Luther King Jr.
