Therefore did not receive good parenthood and had a terrible childhood that would haunt him for the rest of his life, in the military and Hollywood. His mother was an actress and she often denounced the boy saying that she did not want to have him and would have gotten rid of him if she had a chance. His life took a wrong turn at the age of fourteen when his mother died. Gilbert lived a lonely childhood.

Greta Garbo was one of the women whom he had a romantic relationship with and she said he was a difficult man to stay with. Gilbert suffered a heart attack due to his excessive consumption of alcohol and his body was falling apart. He later succumbed to cardiac arrest. However, something weird is that his wife did not attend his funeral.
