This is a fresh water lake in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It stretches to the border of California and Nevada.

The most astonishing fact about the Lake Tahoe is that is a center of attraction for tourists because of the beautiful beaches and ski resorts.

It also consists Emerald Bay State Park which contains the 1929 Nordic-style mansion Vikingsholm to the Southwest shore. The Park is also home to Sand Harbor Beach and Spooner Lake, a gateway to the long distance Tahoe Rim Trail.

The most interesting thing about Lake Tahoe is that its a unique basin that drains its water to the east unlike most rivers that flow towards the ocean. In fact it drains its waters to the mountain with Pyramid Lake as the final destination of its waters.

Tahoe is known to have the most clear waters globally. That not withstanding, its among the most beautiful lakes in the world. This makes it a possible destination for tourist round the year.

Similarly, Lake Tahoe has enough water that can sustain the whole of United States of America.

The Lake is shared by both Nevada and California.  Besides, it is home to many activities including bike riding, mountain coaster, skiing, snowboarding, boat sailing just to mention but a few.

The Lake sank  which a misery. This is not visible as the water filled the bottom.

The Lake view is amazing hence the more engrossed destination for tourists.

1. It’s Waters Drain to the Mountains rather than the Ocean

The Lake has a unique flow of its waters. As a fresh water lake, normally it should be flowing towards the ocean.

However, the Lake flows towards the mountains and drains its waters to another lake known as Pyramid Lake.

Tahoe is known to be the clearest and the most beautiful lake in the world. i actual fact, the locals call it the Jewel of the Sierra.

Despite its water flowing towards the mountains, the Lake has a dam. The dam is located at the entrance to Truckee River.

The main purpose is to regulate the top size feet of the Lake water. However, the dam distributes the water into Tahoe’s primary outflow which is the Truckee River.

Of importance to note is that the Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Truckee River.

4. The misery of the Rock Underneath

Lake Tahoe has a misery underneath. It was discovered that the rock underneath the lake sank to form a flat-bottomed basin. The basin is called graben, a German name for grave.

Further, it is not clear what the Cousteau saw underwater to give it the name but probably it’s underlying nature.

5. Contains Purest Water in the World

What is very surprising about Lake Tahoe is that its water is the purest in the World. It has 99.994% measurements of being pure. This qualifies the Lake to be the top in the global record of pure water large lake in the world.
 
If one was to a comparison on how pure the water is, it can be rated as commercially distilled water which is 99.998%. It contains 60 parts per million of dissolved matter.

6. Name Changing

John C. Fremont was the first to see the Lake in 1844 from the top of Red Lake Peak, which is located south of the basin and what is now Carson Pass.

He named it Lake Bonpland after a botanist. It was later changed to be called Mountain Lake. Subsequently it was named Lake Bigler after a California Governor.

However, a journalist known as Dr. Henry Degroot, was commissioned by the United States Department of Interior to come up with an appropriate name for the Lake.

Dr. Degroot suggested “Tahoe” which is an Indian name meaning “big water”. in 1945, the California State legislature affirmed the name.

7. Lake Tahoe can Supply the whole of United State of America with Water

The most astonishing fact is that the Lake can supply the whole of United States of America with water. It has the capacity of producing 39 trillion gallons of water.

In actual fact, the water is enough to supply every single person in the United States of America with about 50 gallons of water per day.

8.  The Snow makes it the Best Skiing Site

The south of Lake Tahoe is in record to have the most snow that is compared as to cover a 10feet building. History has it that it usually has 500 plus inches of snow.

That much snow makes i the best tourist attraction site for skiing and snowboarding. This does not limit any other winter fun game.

Additionally, there is always a game through out the year in and around Lake Tahoe due to it’s beautiful nature, people seem to visit all the year round

9. Beautiful Sand Harbor

Similarly to the northeast shore, there a hidden treasure of a spectacular sights. The dark granite rocks compared by the vibrant blue water is just so amazing.

This opened opportunities for kayaking and boating. Of importance to note is the annual Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festivals.

The sunset view on a sailboat is the most beautiful view of Lake Tahoe. This is so because of the flat waters of the Lake and especially both Lake Tahoe and Emerald Bay.

The one thing that is outstanding about Lake Tahoe is that it has an amazing view of sunset.

Likewise, the pure drinking water and the the fact that the Lake has the capacity to supply the whole of United States of America with water is fascinating.

The shared boundary and beauty between the two states is amazing in that all of them enjoy the Lake equally.

The tourists visiting Lake Tahoe can make their destination to either California or Nevada. However, the best view for an evening sail is the Northeastern part of the Lake.
