Bowls of ramen are like snowflakes: no two are alike. At least that’s what many owners and chefs of Chicago ramen-focused spots call them.
The chefs of ramen restaurants usually prepare meals but one thing that is common is that there will be noodles on every plate served.
Ramen is personality-driven, that’s what they will say as they serve the yummy-looking but also very tasty meals! In most cases, the meals will be topped up with crispy pig tails and vegetables.
There is always a new restaurant opening anywhere, one such case is when three ramen-focused spots opened in November 2021.
At least three more coming in the next few months, and the idea of using ramen to communicate a chef’s style or at least the versatility of the dish, seems to be driving a ramen revolution in Chicago.
Then again, ramen has been around since the early 20th century when Chinese immigrants served noodle bowls in street food stalls in Japan.
The reason why ramen restaurants are hot in Chicago is the fact that people travel more often nowadays. Hence, they know what the real thing is like and they’re demanding it,!
Of Course, ramen isn’t a new phenomenon, but recently, many people are talking about it more. There is just more chatter, the public is becoming increasingly more educated and excited about food as they become more connected through social media.
More so, people are used to having instant ramen at college and boarding school, hence, the need to have it more away from school. Of importance to note is that ramen meals are a great cheap meal that many people can afford is another reason why the meal has become famous.
Ramen is a great meal depending on the seasoning and texture of both the noodles and broth. The flavor of the broth as well as the thickness of the noodles are the keys to good ramen.
The stock is the most important,” added Merges. “You have to use good pork bones … to get out all that collagen. And the noodles are really important too. When I was younger, I went to Japan and we saw these guys standing on the dough and kneading it with their feet [to develop the gluten] to get that right chew. Despres agreed that the broth is most important, but “the garnishes are also key,” he said. “We do a house pickle that lightens the richness of the broth.”
Anyone visiting the ramen restaurants will relate well to the relevance in the output of the meals, in particular, visiting the restaurants coming up to ensure the products are the same or are much better than the usual ramens that have been in operation for a long time!
What one cannot miss out on is the transcendent bowl with silky broth and springy noodles.

1. Ramen House Shinchan

This is a palatine strip mall restaurant. The dishes take a 15-hour cooking process. The specialty is an intense pork broth which is paired with chewy egg noodles and tender braised pork.
The kitchen also offers spicy Taiwanese-style cream with chicken broth, ground pork, garlic, scallion, bean sprouts, and green chives.
2. Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai

Found in Hoffman Estates offers delivery and takeout. The signature dish is none other than Shogu ramen which is soy sauce-based and topped with pork.
The dish can be accompanied by slices of Chashu, braised pork, and marinated soy sauce.
3. Santouka

Located in Mitusuwa Marketplace the restaurant is nothing better than Shio ramen topped with Toroniku Cheshunt and tender pork cheeks. The meal can be enjoyed indoors and outdoors depending on the weather and the view one would prefer.
4. Ramen Misoya

It is situated in downtown Chicago. The restaurant has many specialties of course none offer the delicious umami-packed broth which is accompanied by grilled pork, corn, and fried potato wedges.
5. Chicago Ramen
This is a casual spot for Japanese ramen located on Oakton Street in Chicago. The ramen restaurant offers a different dish option compared to the many others.
The cold thick noodles from sun noodles are meant to be dipped in a chicken vegetable broth mixed miso plates.
6. Kameya Ramen
Belmont Avenue offers delicious deliveries that, one can enjoy due to the texture.
Their ramen has pork belly, bulogi beef, and chicken katsu but also sushi. What is more, they offer indoor and outdoor seating.
7. Tanaka Ramen
This restaurant has several branches in Chicago, but what is outstanding about all the branches is that they offer aesthetics in their meals. Furthermore, the restaurants have a specialty in ramen with kale noodles.
This is the best place to go for all visitors or locals who would like to enjoy a warm ramen dish.
8. Ramen Wasabi
The restaurant is a minimalist spot with a full bar and sidewalk view. For all the spice lovers, this is the place to find refuge.
The Tonkotsu broth is slow-cooked for a number of days to ensure they bring out the best. It is then served with Berkshire pork belly, soft boiled egg, bamboo shoots, scallions, sesame, wood ear mushrooms, and garlic oil.
For a hotter option, the spicy roasted garlic miso ramen loaded with chili peppers is the best served in this restaurant.
9. UrbanBelly
Award-winning Bill Kim Grace’s the community with a fast-casual restaurant. His culinary skills add to the art of each dish.
It offers a range of delicious Asian flavors. The nontraditional ramen features a pho-like soup base, braised pork belly, radish, mushrooms, and soft boiled egg.
10. Shinya Ramen House
One of the best ramen restaurants in Chicago. They have a special ramen menu with classics like Hakata Tonkotsu and Sapporo Miso. The rest of the dishes like tomato vegetables stocked with earthy matcha noodles and zesty yuzu chicken are tongue-tickling.
With a salt huge spread of grilled specialties, the meal is unique but not far from the usual ramen meal served in the most common ramen restaurants in Chicago.
