Illinois is known for its vibrant cities, beautiful natural scenery, and rich cultural history. However, the state is also home to some of the weirdest laws in the United States.

From laws that prohibit eating in a place that’s on fire to rules against fishing while sitting on a giraffe’s neck, Illinois’ laws have plenty of quirks that might leave visitors mind blown. 1. It is illegal to fish while sitting on a giraffe’s neck

In Illinois, it’s forbidden to fish while sitting on a giraffe’s neck. This has to be the weirdest of all laws. It might mean that there was a group of people of engaged in this practice in order to warrant the enactment of the law.

2. It is against the law to give a lit cigar to a pet

It is illegal in the state of Illinois to give a lit cigar to a dog, a cat, or any other domestic pet. Some dogs can get pretty crazy begging for whatever you are eating but cigars is where you should draw the line.

3. In Chicago, it is illegal to take a French poodle to the opera

In Chicago, you’re prohibited from taking a French poodle to the opera. This law is terribly unfair, because everyone knows that French poodles are dogs of high class and much culture.

4. It is illegal to wear a fake moustache in a church that causes laughter

If you are thinking about wearing a funny fake moustache to church next Sunday, you may want to think again. In Chicago it is against the law to wear a fake moustache in church that causes laughter.

5. It is against the law for barbers to use their fingers to apply shaving cream to a customer’s face

It is illegal for barbers to use their fingers to apply shaving cream to a customer鈥檚 face. This preserves the dignity of individuals. By protecting personal space, barbers are prevented from infringing on customers.

6. It is illegal for minors to play pinball in South Beloit

Listed in the state code under the section having to do with offenses involving minors (alongside 鈥渓oitering in a billiard room鈥� and lying about your age to get into a movie theater), the law says: 鈥淚t is unlawful for a minor under the age of eighteen to play a pinball machine.鈥� While it鈥檚 a kid鈥檚 game, in South Carolina, kids can鈥檛 legally play it.

7. In Moline, it is against the law to have ice cream in your back pocket

It is illegal for a person to walk down the street with an ice cream cone in their back pocket. Back when most people got around on horseback, horse thieves would put ice cream in their pocket to lure horses away without being charged with stealing.

8. It is illegal to mispronounce the name of the town of Joliet

Town fathers in Joliet, reflecting the pet peeve of hearing their town’s name mispronounced ‘Jolly-ETTE’ when all local folk know it’s pronounced ‘Joe-lee-ETTE’, made pronouncing it Jolly-ette a misdemeanor, punishable by a $5 fine.

9. Drinking in public is illegal

Drinking publicly is a crime in the city of Chicago and most places in Illinois. If you are walking on the street drinking from a can of beer or open bottle of wine, the police have the right to arrest you under the law.

10. It is illegal to eat in a place that is on fire in Chicago

In Chicago it’s illegal to eat at a restaurant that is on fire. If there’s  kitchen fire, maybe you tipped over a candle, oh maybe the chef lit his poofy hat on fire. You better run or Johnny Law is coming to get you.

11. It is against the law to have sex in a car that is parked on the street in Crystal Lake

If two people are performing a sexual act or engaging in sexual conduct in a car that is in a public area, and within public view, then they may be charged with a crime. This is because of lewd behaviors.

12. It is illegal to go fishing in your pajamas in Chicago

The windy city is not a fan of pajama pants. In Chicago, Illinois, it is illegal to fish in your pajamas within the city limits. Just stay in bed.

13. It is illegal to make faces at dogs in Normal

14. In Eureka, it is illegal for a man with a moustache to kiss a woman.

You know a woman fed up with her man’s facial hair came up with this law for sure.
