Elizabeth Corrigan’s Sexuality. What We Know
Elizabeth Corrigan has been a topic of discussion on several occasions including her role in the series The Bachelor. The actress’s role, however, was short-lived because of her misunderstanding with her fellow actress Shanae Ankey. However, something more interesting caught the eye of the public; her coming out as bisexual.
The 2022 Pride Month was not different from the previous Pride months as this is the period during which many people come out of the closet. Most people who announce their sexuality include high-profile figures such as Elizabeth Corrigan.
Several men and women came out during the 2022 Pride Month including King Richard, and Aunjanue Ellis, just to mention a few. Pride month is ideal for coming out because many people find their identities when they interact with people from the LGBTQ+ community.
Before the 2022 pride month came to a close, Elizabeth Corrigan joined the list of celebrities coming out as queer and providing her stance in the LGBTQ+ community. In her Instagram post, the movie star extensively explained her sexuality and the reasons why she did not come out in public before.
“It’s hard to know the right way to say these things or the right time. Today seems like both and neither. Waking up this morning to my first Pride in NYC, I was so excited,” she posted on Instagram.
Sharing a lengthy post alongside photos of herself wearing a rainbow top, Corrigan was clear about her decision to finally announce to the world that she is out and proud. She says that her first experiences before posting on social media showed her that she needed to let everyone know she was queer.
She sends an important message to everyone who is waiting for the right time to come out saying that there might or might not be the right time to begin being one’s self. According to Corrigan, one does not need to wait until they are ready because she wasn’t either.
“Am I ready? No. Am I scared? Yes. Will “the right time” come? Qualify it,” she added on her post.
“It’s important to me today to share with you all that I am queer. More specifically, I am, always have been, and always will be bisexual,” she continued on her post clearing doubts from everyone who might have thought of accusing her of gay-baiting.
According to her statement, Corrigan has been bisexual throughout her life but chose not to come out publicly because of fear. However, she has mentioned her bisexuality to everyone close to her including close friends and especially her family.
Several fans might have heard the rumors about Corrigan’s sexuality but they were not sure and waited to hear from her.
In her post, the superstar states that her fear of what might or might not happen to her kept her from letting everyone know that she is bisexual. Seeing how members of the LGBTQ+ community were treated in the past contributes to many people fearing to come out. While some are denied important roles in the film industry, others fail to receive credit for their job and are even sacked from their positions.
“If you know me personally, you probably know this. Every time I tell someone new this information, I experience fear. Fear that it will end a business transaction, fear that I will make someone uncomfortable, fear that I would be ostracized from my family,” she added.
Although fear has kept her from telling the world about her sexuality, Corrigan is a strong woman who, not only came out but also provided important information for anybody who is hesitating to come out. She provides a shoulder to lean on for those who feel isolated from society because of their different approach to sexuality.
She says “So maybe one person will feel less alone… If you’re that one. I’ve got you. I’m here-I’ll answer,” which marks the beginning of her journey in helping the LGBTQ+ community. “You are NOT alone. Hoping that one day the fear will turn to what it should be …PRIDE. Only love. All love. Today and each day to come. Moments matter,” she continued
Elizabeth Corrigan is happy for her final decision to come out because she feels comfortable and living her best life today.
“What’s more important to me at the end of the day -is to be me. Authentic. Genuine. Raw,” she added in the post.
The Colorado native also made a follow-up post on her account thanking those who had supported her in the past and stood by her side even when she decided to come out publicly. She mentioned one of her old friends Olivia Caridi for providing support and encouragement throughout her journey as a bisexual woman.
Although her coming out brought so much attention and more fans across the world, many people knew Elizabeth Corrigan from Clayton Echard’s season in The Bachelor series when the actress fell out with Shanae Ankey.
Ankey accused Corrigan of being a bully and shared with the rest of the team about Corrigan’s ADHD condition. However, Clayton, not understanding the whole situation was forced to send Corrigan home for trying to split the team. However, his decision was met with harsh and angry fans who sent him hate messages online forcing him to apologize for sending Corrigan home.
“I’m sorry, Elizabeth, for what you’re going through,” he wrote on January 31. “I wish I could have seen what was happening when I wasn’t there. I obviously knew y’all weren’t in a good place, but at the time I thought it was, solely, petty drama,” he wrote.
Corrigan also defended him asking her fans to stop insulting him on social media.
“I realize you want to support me and I appreciate that. But please — we are here to rise above not stoop to. Redirect that anger as love and support for the other girls,” she wrote on social media bringing an end to her long controversy with fellow actresses.
Although coming out of the closet seems like a hard decision, Elizabeth Corrigan showed everyone that it is harder to keep hiding what one truly is. Her coming out as bisexual serves as an example to many people who would want to follow her example by coming out on their social media.
