In the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Final, when the United States defeated Japan 5-2, Carli Lloyd made history by becoming the first player to score three goals in a FIFA Women’s World Cup final and the second player, after Geoff Hurst, to score a hat-trick in an adult FIFA World Cup Final.

In the first 16 minutes of the game, Lloyd scored three goals, the first two of which came within three minutes of one another in the opening five minutes. She received the Silver Boot for her six goals and one assist, as well as the Golden Ball Trophy for being the competition’s best player.

After the United States won the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Lloyd, and her teammates were the first female sports team to be honored with a ticker tape parade in New York City. A key to the city was given to each player by Mayor Bill de Blasio. In October of that year, President Barack Obama welcomed the team to the White House.

7. She is the only player to score in two separate Olympic gold medal matches

In the 2-1 victory for the Americans over Japan in the Olympic gold medal game, which was contested at Wembley Stadium in London, Lloyd was responsible for both of the country’s goals.
