Amber Portwood- Is She Bi Or Straight?

Amber Portwood had the simplest way to come out as bisexual to her mother and the entire world but was worried about her child finding out. She also predicted that many fans would be shocked knowing that she is not only bisexual but has been for over a decade and had a romantic relationship with women in the past.

Born in 1990 in Anderson, Indiana in the United States of America, Amber Leann Portwood rose to fame when she was part of the 2009 television series 16 and Pregnant. She has also been in several works in the recent past where she had the platform to reveal to the world that she is bisexual, during the Tuesday episode of the Teen Mom OG.

Amber revealed that she is writing another memoir, where she said that she would speak deeply about her personal life including sexuality.

鈥淧eople are going to be a bit shocked that I am bisexual,鈥� said Amber predicting the reaction from her fans when they read her story.

Coming out of the closet has never been easy and Amber had experienced enough to stay closeted despite being urged by people close to her to stay in the closet. She went into detail about her experience with women when she was young.

鈥淚 have had a relationship with a woman for 8 months before. I think I was 20 years old,鈥� added the television star.

However, she doesn鈥檛 seem prepared to face what comes after her coming out because her ex-boyfriend Gary Shirley might not approve of her decision to publicly state that she is bisexual. Considering the ups and downs in their relationship, Amber thinks that Gary would be more disappointed because he is already not willing to go to therapy to save their sinking relationship.

鈥�I think he’s going to think it’s going to be bad for Leah,鈥� she said, referring to their teenage daughter. 鈥淗e doesn’t even like the thought of going to therapy to help our relationship so this is just another embarrassment to them,鈥� added Amber in fear.

Although Amber does not completely like the idea of coming out because of the impact it is going to have on her two children, she also wants them to grow up knowing the truth and not hating people from the LGBTQ+ community. She had plans to live with her secret for the rest of her life but suddenly changed her mind because she felt it was the best decision for her and her family.

鈥淭hey are a really big factor of why,” she said. 鈥淚 don’t want them to ever think it’s bad. I don’t want them to look at other people who are like this and think it’s bad. Who am I to sit here and hide forever? Which is actually what I was planning on doing anyways. I was going to go to the grave with this,鈥� said Amber as she had a sigh of relief for letting out a lifetime secret that was weighing her down.

Despite having difficulties revealing her sexuality to her family members, most of them were very understanding and welcoming, especially her mother. Amber decides to call her mother, Tonya, and tell her that she is bisexual over the phone.

鈥淚 was calling you for a reason. I’m shaking right now, honestly. I have been bisexual. I’m very attracted to men, but I’m also similarly very attracted to women as well,鈥� said Amber to her mother. Amber expected an outburst from her mother but surprisingly, her mother鈥檚 response was welcoming. After saying that she had been bisexual for several years, her mother wanted to know why she had kept the secret for many years.

鈥淭here was so much going on back then that I didn’t want to put any more stuff on the family,鈥� said Amber. 鈥淚 was ashamed at the time because [people weren’t] as open then. My book that’s coming out, I don’t point blank say that I’m bisexual, but I do say that I’ve been with women,鈥� she added.

Amber Portwood鈥檚 mother urged her not to be ashamed if being bisexual is what she wants and her daughter, Leah, would also understand and love her for who she is despite being away for a long time.

There is a deeper connection that mothers have with their daughters and Amber鈥檚 mother demonstrated her love for her daughter amidst difficult times. In the same way, Amber must know that the love between her and her daughter Leah is not going to be reduced by the fact that she has come out publicly as bisexual.

Every mother wants what is best for their daughters and that is exactly what Amber Portwood was doing to her daughter Leah. being away for months was a big reason enough for Leah to have questions, but coming out as bisexual was going to be a bigger issue. However, when the mother of two met her daughter after months of not seeing each other, Amber explained everything to her pre-teen daughter. Even though she was upset, Leah believes that the awkward moment was okay and everything will be fine in the future.

鈥淚 think with Leah, it was a little awkward for her with me being there,鈥� Amber said during a phone conversation with her mother. 鈥淚 think with time it’ll be a little better. I tried to explain to her,鈥� she added.

The fact that Leah and James are still young gives Amber hope that when they grow up they will understand sexuality better and love their mother for who she is. Sexuality is a big topic that needs one to be mature to understand what is going on in the world today. This gives Amber a lot of hope that being together with her children would make everything fine.

鈥�I think if we stay on track, it’ll be fine,鈥� Leah concluded in the phone call with optimism that she will have a better life with her children. Having had a past relationship with Andrew Glennon with whom they have a son, and Gary prepared the thirty-three-year-old television star to know how to handle relationships amidst tough times. Being bisexual openly came as a bonus in her life.
