20 Scary Facts About the Hillsdale Murders

The crime rate in Hillsdale, Michigan, the United States of America is being managed well compared to the previous years. Homicide and other murder-related incidents had become a major worry in Hillsdale.

There had been random shootings in the streets, and some other people were stabbed to death. A couple of deaths took place in the public which shocked many people, but the Hillsdale police department is working hard to contain them. Some of the murders that took place in Hillsdale are still unsolved and others are still being investigated.

The most shocking murder in Hillsdale was the murder of Jeremy Barron. Ashley Hoath had hatched a plan with her friend Jay Clark to murder him for taking her children. Before shooting him dead, Jay tried to persuade Jeremy to apologise to Ashley which he didn鈥檛 leading to his shooting to death.

1. Jonathan鈥檚 Shooting & Murder of a 26-year-old Woman

On the night of 12th August 2022, there was a homicide incident that was reported in Hillsdale. At around 10 pm that night, residents on the 11000 block of Opel Dr. In Somerset Twp. were shocked by the sounds of gunshots.

When police were dispatched, they found a 26-year-old woman had been shot dead. A middle-aged man, Jonathan Ressler, was arrested for the murder of the woman who was believed to be his partner/lover. The man is still held in police custody as investigations continue.

2. A 53-year-old Man Shot Dead a 43-year-old Man in a Murder-Suicide Incident

At Hillsdale State Park, there was a very unfortunate incident that led to the death of a 43-year-old man. On 20th June 2023, there were reports of a murder-suicide incident that involved 53-year-old Brian Meysenburg and 43-year-old Bryan Hendrickson.

Paramedics who responded to the distress call found Bryan with a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead. They also found Brian who had a knife stab which was not fatal nor life-threatening.

Brian was taken to hospital where he received medical treatment and discharge. He was taken to police custody where he is facing one count of second-degree murder of Bryan Hendrickson.

3. Alexander Fatally Shot & Murdered Lee at His Residence

As the residents living along 15500 Grange Road in Camden Township, Hillsdale were having a peaceful night, they were shocked by gunshot sounds from the neighborhood. At 4:07 am on 17th August 2018, 36-year-old Alexander Lee Dombrowski shot 64-year-old Alexander Lee Dombrowski. The fatal shooting took place in his residence where his body was retrieved.

4. A Second Man was Shot Outside the Residence When Responding to the Calls for Help

The elder Alexander Lee Dombrowski was not the only person to be murdered by the younger Alexander. A second man was also shot and murdered outside the residence as he was responding to the calls for help.

As 64-year-old Alexander was calling out for help, 56-year-old Timothy John Curtiss responded to the calls of distress. After the calls of Alexander went quiet, the younger Alexander came out to face off against Timothy.

Timothy was shot and killed at the 15500 Grange Road residence for responding to the calls. The suspect then tried to walk away from the crime scene but was apprehended and taken to custody without any incident.

5. A Teenager was Shot in an Altercation

In late May 2022, there was an altercation that led to the death of a 16-year-old, Robert Flint. Robert who was described by his parents as a budding artist who loved the outdoors found himself in this fix that cost his life.

He got involved in the altercation with 66-year-old Kirk Culik at Mill Street near U.S. 12. Robert was shot and died on the spot.

6. Robert was Found Lying in a Ditch with a Neck Gunshot Wound that Killed Him

The dispatched team of paramedics and police arrived at a shocking scene. 16-year-old Robert Flint was found fighting for his life after Kirk had shot him.

He had a fatal gunshot wound in his neck and was laying in a ditch. However, the teenager did not manage to make it out alive as he died from the gunshot wound.

7. Kirk Claimed The Murder was Out of Self-defense

The 66-year-old was apprehended by the police and taken into custody for the murder of Robert Flint. During his interrogations, Kirk made a damning revelation about what made him pull the trigger. He revealed that he shot and killed Robert out of self-defense.

8. A Wanted Man & His Girlfriend Involved in Shooting & Killing

In May 2017, two people were accused of the murder of a Hillsdale County man. Jay Clark who was a wanted man was accused of murdering 37-year-old Jeremy Barron.

Clark was wanted for sexually assaulting a minor in June 2015. Jeremy had gone missing for some time with his body discovered buried after being shot dead.

9. A Group of Children Stumbled on the Body of Jeremy

In April, the body of Jeremy Barron who had gone missing was discovered by a group of Amish children. The children were riding their horses through a wooded area and discovered the body. They alerted the authorities who retrieved the body and identified it as Jeremy Barron.

10. The Body of Jeremy had been Buried & Reburied before being Discovered

27-year-old Ashley Hoath was arrested alongside Jay Clark as an accessory to the murder of Jeremy as more terrifying things about this crime were uncovered. Investigators revealed that Jeremy might have been shot dead in an unknown location and then buried. However, his body was moved and reburied in Camden Township where it was discovered.

11. Ashley Confessed that Jeremy was Abusive & He had Taken Her Children

After investigations commenced, Ashley Hoath was arrested and investigated. During her interrogation, she revealed some important details about what had motivated her to be an accomplice in the murder of Jeremy. Ashley revealed that Jeremy was an abusive boyfriend who had also taken her children away making her furious about him.

12. Jeremy was Shot Four Times in the Back by Jay Clark

Ashley and Jay Clark had planned for the murder of Jeremy who had taken her children away. The two had abducted Jeremy and put him in Jay鈥檚 Chevrolet Tahoe. The execution of Jeremy took place as Ashley was seated in the Chevrolet. Jay shot Jeremy four times in the back while in his vehicle.

13. Jay Persuaded Jeremy to Apologise to Ashley Which He Didn鈥檛 Lead to His Death

Before killing Jeremy, Jay did something that could have saved his life if he complied with it. He persuaded Jeremy to apologize and promise not to hurt Ashley anymore. However, Jeremy did not respond. This is when he was discharged for shots at Jeremy Barron killing him.

14. Jay Burned the Murder & Backseat of His Truck after Disposing of Jeremy鈥檚 Body

After Jay shot and murdered Jeremy behind his truck, he hatched a plan of disposing of the body and conceal evidence. He decided to burn the murder weapon after he dumped the body in the woods. Jay also burned the backseats of his truck to conceal any evidence against him.

15. 25-year-old Shannon Eloped With A Man She Met at Her friend’s Wedding

Shannon Mohr had broken up with her boyfriend and had not planned to attend her friend鈥檚 wedding. However, she was persuaded by her mother to attend the wedding where she met 35-year-old Dave Davis, who was a self-described millionaire.

A year later in September 1979, Shannon decided to elope with Dave and they wedded. She did not know that this was the road to her murder.

16. Shannon Fell Off the Horse Back & Died on the Farm Dave

After moving in with Dave at his farm in Hillsdale, she found out that he was not rich as he claimed with her income from a nursing job being their only source of income. On 23rd July 1980, 10 months after their marriage, an unfortunate thing happened to Shannon.

The two took their walking horse to visit their neighbor, Dick Britton who was helped in the repair of some machinery. After finishing the repairs, they headed back to their home.

However, Dave returned to Dick鈥檚 place alone and claimed that Shannon had bolted off the horse. She had bolted off the horse and hit her head on a rock killed her.

17. Dick Found Shannon Lying on the Ground with Her Blouse Unbuttoned

Dave rushed with Dick to the scene where the 鈥渁ccident鈥� had taken place. At the scene, Dick was shocked by the state of which Shannon was in. She was lying on the ground with her shoes off and her blouse unbuttoned which was suspicious.

18. There was Only One Rock in the Area that was Stained with Blood

Dave had initially told Dick that Shannon bolted off the horseback and hit her head on a rock. After the discovery of Shannon without her shoes and unbuttoned blouse, Dick sensed that this was a murder that Dave had carried out. At the area of the incident, there was only one rock that was stained with blood.

19. Dave was Discovered to have Scratches on His Arms after Shannon鈥檚 Death

Dick helped in rushing Shannon to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. What shocked investigators is that Dave who was in tears also had clear scratches on his arms. This was a major suspicion alongside the fact that he might have murdered her to get the $220,000 life insurance money they had after their marriage.

20. Shannon Died from Succinylcholine Injection & Not a Blow to the Head

Before she was buried, Dave had insisted that Shannon should be cremated because he had no money to cater for the burial. However, her family paid the burial money. After the burial, Dave moved away from Hillsdale with another woman with a claim that he wanted some time off.

Investigations continued with investigators finding huge concentrations of succinylcholine in her body. It was determined that Dave had injected Shannon with the substance which killed her rather than the blow she received from the horseback fall.

Hillsdale might be having several homicide incidents in the past but it is a safe place to reside.
