15 Famous US Rappers who were Assassinated


 

 Rappers all over the world incorporate gangsta lyrics about their street bona fides and borrow ideas and lines from crime classics.  Most rappers use music to express rather than create what is already happening in their communities. Regardless, this has resulted in very talented to be killed. However, here is a list of some of the 15 famous US rappers who were assassinated. They include the following;

1. Takeoff

On November 1, 2022, Takeoff was shot and killed in Houston at the age of 28. According to law enforcement sources and multiple witnesses, the incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m., when cops received a call about a man shot at a bowling alley called 810 Billiards & Bowling Houston. The rapper was a member of Migos, a Lawrenceville, Georgia-based hip-hop trio. Migos was one of the most influential groups of their generation, pioneering the “Migos flow,” a style of rapping in choppy, staccato triplets. The group, which disbanded in early 2022, had several international hits, including “Bad and Boujee,” “Versace,” “Slippery,” and “Fight Night.”

2. Pope Smoke

Bashar Barakah Jackson, better known as Pop Smoke, was an American rapper. He debuted as a musician in late 2018 with his debut single “MPR (Panic Part 3 Remix).” Pop Smoke rose to prominence in 2019 with the release of his breakout singles “Welcome to the Party” and “Dior.”

Meet the Woo 2, his second mixtape, was released on February 7, 2020, and debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, making it the rapper’s first top-10 project in the United States. He was, however, murdered less than two weeks after the mixtape’s release during a home invasion in Los Angeles.

3.XXXTentacion

XXXTentacion who is known as Jahseh Dwayne Ricardo Onfroy was an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was born in Plantation, Florida but spent most of his childhood in Lauderhill. However, he began writing music after he was released from the juvenile detention center and later on in 2013 he launched his music career on SoundCloud. His music style  and techniques are unconventional, they include distortion and heavy guitar-backed instrumental

XXXTentacion was shot and killed outside a motorsports store in Deerfield Beach, Florida, on June 18, 2018. Four men were arrested in connection with the rapper’s murder that year. They were charged with murder and other offenses, and one suspect pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

4. Nipsey Hussle

Nipsey Hussle, who was also known as Airmiess Joseph was an American rapper. Hussle rose to prominence with the following mixtapes, The Bullets Ain’t Got No Name series, The Marathon, The Marathon Continues, and Crenshaw, of which American rapper Jay-Z purchased 100 copies for $100 each.

Nipsey was a member of the Rollin 60s Neighborhood Crips, but he spoke out against rappers who would boast of alleged gang affiliations to stunt or look cool – not because he wished them violence, but to remind them that for too many young people, joining a gang was about survival. On March 31, 2019, Nipsey Hussle, an award-winning hip-hop artist, and philanthropist, was shot at least ten times in Los Angeles.

5. King Von

In 2020,  King Von who was an American rapper from Chicago was killed in a shooting outside an Atlanta nightclub. The shooting occurred following the 26-year-album-old’s release party for “Welcome to O’Block,” a reference to the South Side neighborhood where he grew up near 64th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. King Von, real name Dayvon Bennett, was taken to a nearby hospital and died.

6. Young Dolph

Young Dolph whose real name is Adolph Robert Thornton Jr was assassinated in 2021 while shopping for cookies at Makeda’s Cookies in his hometown of South Memphis. Dolph was in Memphis for his annual Thanksgiving charity event. 

King of Memphis which was his debut studio album debuted at number 49 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2016.  He made an appearance on O.T. Genasis’ hit single “Cut It,” which peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Rich Slave, Young Dolph’s seventh album, was released in 2020 and quickly became his highest-charting project, debuting at number four on the Billboard 200.

7. The Notorious B.I.G

Christopher Wallace who was also known as The Notorious B.I.G., Biggie Smalls, and Big Poppa is regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time due to his unique laid-back lyrical delivery and often grim content. When the Notorious B.I.G. was murdered in Los Angeles in 1997, he was at the pinnacle of his fame. Nobody knows who shot Biggie Smalls to this day. Some believe it was in retaliation for the death of Tupac Shakur months earlier. None of these claims were credible, and the identity of the person who shot and killed Wallace remains unknown.

8. Tupac Shakur

Tupac Shakur died on September 13, 1996, at the age of 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The rapper was known for his gangsta lyrics. He was shot four times in a street ambush near the gambling city’s opulent strip. The car he was riding in was driven by Marion “Suge” Knight, the head of Death Row Records, who was slightly injured.

He is regarded as one of the most influential rappers of all time. Shakur is one of the best-selling musicians of all time, having sold over 75 million records worldwide. Much of Shakur’s music has been praised for addressing contemporary social issues that plagued inner cities, and he is regarded as a symbol of anti-inequality activism.

9. PnB Rock

The death of rapper PnB Rock in Los Angeles startled the hip-hop community.  His real name was Rakim Hasheem. He was a rapper and a singer from the United State. According to Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore, the rapper was shot while eating with his girlfriend at Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles on September 12 in what appears to be a robbery. Notably, Moore stated that a photo of the couple’s meal had been posted on Instagram, along with the location.

10. Big L

Lamont Coleman was an American rapper and record executive known professionally as Big L.  Coleman’s lyrical ability has been recognized by writers at AllMusic, HipHopDX, and The Source, who have praised him for his use of wordplay. He was also been dubbed as “one of the most auspicious storytellers in hip-hop history” and “the greatest punchline rapper of all time” by many. 

On February 15, 1999, Big L was shot nine times in the face and chest in a drive-by shooting at 45 West 139th Street in his native Harlem. However, Gerard Woodley, who was one of Big L’s childhood friends, was arrested for the crime three months later. 

11. Doe B

Glenn Thomas was an American rapper from Montgomery, Alabama. He was better known by his stage name Doe B. He was most well-known for being signed to T.I.’s Atlanta-based record label, Hustle Gang. Thomas was also known for his signature eye patch, which was the result of a shooting in 2009. 

He was shot on December 28, 2013, at the Centennial Bar and Grill in Montgomery, Alabama. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. Kimberly Johnson, a bystander, was also killed, and six other patrons were injured. 

12.Dolla

Roderick Anthony Burton II was an American rapper from Atlanta, Georgia. He was better known by his stage name Dolla. Burton began his music career in 2003 as Bucklyte, a member of the hip-hop group Da Razkalz Cru. However, he went on to work as a model for the Sean John clothing line after the group disbanded. Burton signed to Akon’s Konvict Muzik label in 2007.

Burton was shot and killed at the Beverly Center shopping mall’s valet stand on May 18, 2009, and Aubrey Berry was arrested for his murder. Berry was found not guilty on all counts. There has been no other suspect identified, and the murder remains unsolved.

13. MO3

Melvin Abdul Noble Jr. who was, better known as MO3, was an American rapper and singer best known for his 2019 collaboration “Errybody” with Boosie Badazz. His collaboration with longtime collaborator Boosie Badazz (BadAzz Mo3) debuted at number 136 on the US Billboard 200. In April 2021, his posthumous album Shottaz 4Eva debuted at number 36 on the US Billboard 200, while his single “Outside” debuted at number 16 on the US Bubbling Under Hot 100 the same week, later reaching number 92 on the Billboard Hot 100. 

Noble was 28 years old when he was shot and killed on November 11, 2020. While being pursued by another vehicle on Interstate 35 in Dallas, he pulled over in front of a semi in the center lane. Kwon Dontrell White also pulled over and approached Noble while he was in the car. Noble attempted to retrieve a weapon but was unsuccessful and fled south on the highway. Before returning to his dark-colored vehicle, White pursued him and shot Noble multiple times with an assault rifle. White fled in the car, which is thought to be a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro. Noble was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead. 

14.JayDaYoungan

Javorius Tykies Scott who was professionally known as JayDaYoungan was a rapper and singer from the United States.  He was best known for his singles “23 Island,” “Elimination,” and “Opps,” which had 49, 27, and 26 million SoundCloud streams, respectively, as of November 2020. 

On July 27, 2022, he was shot at least eight times and died at a Bogalusa hospital not far from the shooting scene. Scott was sitting on the front lawn with his father at their Bogalusa home when the gunmen appeared and started shooting. His father was shot in the arm twice but was in stable condition.

15. Drakeo The Ruler

Darrell Wayne Caldwell who was professionally known as Drakeo the Ruler was an American rapper. He was known for his flow and “oddly expressive, poetic word choices,” prompting the Los Angeles Times to label him “the most original West Coast stylist in decades.”  Cold Devil, his fourth mixtape, has been streamed over 100 million times. 

Caldwell is said to have been stabbed backstage on December 18, 2021, as part of the Once Upon a Time in Los Angeles festival According to initial eyewitness accounts, he was stabbed in the neck during an altercation. Later on, he died as a result of his stab wounds around midnight on December 19, 2021, about four hours after the altercation began.
