Paul has the moniker 鈥淐abbie Killer鈥� as well. He was only charged with one murder, as opposed to other serial murderers who are frequently charged with many murders. This was despite being suspected of numerous more murders.

Between 1997 and 2003, he killed seven young women in the Southeast, including two who were expecting. Moreover, when serving with the American Army in Germany in the early 1990s, police believed that he may have also murdered a number of local women.

A cab driver who got to know his victims before killing them, Durousseau was from Jacksonville, Florida. In Georgia and Florida over the course of six years, he is charged with raping and killing his victims.

1. His father Abandoned the Family, Leaving his Mother to Raise him Alone

He is a native of Texas who was reared alone by his mother after his father left the family. As his father abandoned his mother in 1970, he moved in with his mother鈥檚 relatives in Los Angeles, California. The early years of Durousseau are mostly unknown to the general public. Durousseau, then 19, found himself working as a security guard after finishing high school.

2. He Started Committing Offences as an Adult

After finishing high school and securing a job as a security guard, he started getting involved in various offenses. He committed his first adult charges for concealing a handgun on December 18, 1991, and January 21, 1992.

3. He Received an Unwarranted Discharge from the US Army

Durousseau joined the US Army in November 1992. He was later stationed in Germany. He began dating Natoca Spann. She was a soldier at the time serving in Germany.

In 1995, the two got hitched in Las Vegas. Durousseau was detained for kidnapping and raping a young woman on March 13, 1997, at Fort Benning, Georgia, where the pair had been transferred in 1996. But he was found not guilty of those accusations in August of the same year.

Nonetheless, he was quickly discovered to be in possession of the stolen property. In January 1999, he was court-martialed, convicted of the crime, and suspended from the Army.

Durousseau frequently quarreled with his wife about money matters. Their arguments usually descended into violence. Natoca was advised by the authorities to ask for a protection order from her husband.

Natoca testified to the court that Durousseau would become quite upset whenever she brought up divorce. He received a 48-day jail sentence for domestic assault.

5. He Raped and Strangled his First Victim to Death with a Cord

One month after Durousseau was convicted of all counts of rape. On September 7, 1997, the naked body of 26-year-old Tracy Habersham was found in Fort Benning. She disappeared around 48 hours ago after attending a party, according to sources.

She was strangled to death with a cord. Moreover, further investigations showed there were traces of rape. Nonetheless, Durousseau was not a suspect in this case. He wasn鈥檛 initially connected to the murder until a DNA test, and following his arrest, he gave a complete confession.

6. He Murdered Two Pregnant Women

One of his pregnant victims was Nikia Kilpatrick. Nikia was six months pregnant with her third child when she passed away. She was 19 years at the time of the incident.

After not hearing from Nikia Kilpatrick for a number of days in late December 2002, her family became concerned. When they visited her home on January 1, 2003, they discovered she had died in her bedroom. Two years and eleven months old were her two sons. They were also found in residence, starving but still alive.

The second victim was Shawanda Denise McCalister. She was a 20-year-old nurse鈥檚 helper who was also expecting a child. In her own apartment, she was both raped and killed.

There were several coincidences to Kilpatrick鈥檚 murder, like how nearly comparable the crime scenes were in the two locations. On the first day of his new employment as a cab driver, he killed her. A day later, on January 10, her body was found.

He did manage to land employment rather frequently, but none of them lasted very long. Despite his past, he worked as an animal control officer and a school bus driver in 2001. He gained employment as a cab driver in Jacksonville in 2003. Typically, after gaining the victim’s trust, Durousseau would break into the house, bind the victim’s hands, rape them, and then strangle them to death.

8. German Authorities Suspected Him of Killing Local Women while Stationed there

When serving with the American Army in Germany in the early 1990s, police there believe he may have also murdered a number of local women.

9. Durousseau was Charged with Five Charges of First-degree Murder

After being detained, Durousseau was charged with five charges of first-degree murder. He was arrested on June 17, 2003. He received a fatal injection death penalty on December 13, 2007, for the murder of Teresa Mack.

As the probe into the killings developed, the police found various connections between them and Durousseau. Durousseau was connected to the victims and the killings according to Genetic evidence, fiber analysis, cab and cell phone data, and other sources.

In his automobile, the police discovered jewelry that had once belonged to some victims. The victims had called him before they vanished, according to the victims’ cell phone records.

10. There were Several Similarities that Linked all Murders that He Committed

The murders were connected by a number of commonalities. All of the victims were African American women, and the killer鈥檚 methods were remarkably distinctive and comparable in the majority of these murders.

The murders were carried out using cords like an extension or coaxial cable cords. This made the killer鈥檚 method extremely distinctive and recurring. Sheriff Nat Glover claimed that Paul was suffocating the victims with a specific type of slipknot he had made out of cords.

He was kept in the Union Correctional Institute in Florida, which houses death row inmates. When the trial jury was unable to reach a unanimous decision, his death sentence was overturned by the US Supreme Court in January 2017. 10-to-2 votes were cast in favor of the death penalty.
